I remember an old boxer (50's era) telling me that once a fighter got his hair processed, he was on his way down.

This is before my time. Wohl center is where they held the city championships. Its been almost 40 years since that first boxing tournament, but we fought at Wohl, Matthew Dickey, North County and Pagedale. When we were going to major tournaments we trained at various gyms but one of the main ones was 12th and Park. Kenny Loehr was the coach. You had to be a beast to make it to nationals from the Lou. I stayed on the team.

2016 Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka (6-0, 5 KOs) returned with a third-round KO of Alexander Dimitrenko in his native France following a year-long suspension. Dimitrenko should retire after three straight stoppage losses (including one in April in five rounds to Andy Ruiz).

the odd thing is he slow as hell but his workrate is crazy. What will hurt Joyce against the top 10 HWs is how open he is to getting hit clean

He's basically an in-shape Butterbean. I have yet to be impressed with any performance of his thus far.

Sad to see how far Jennings has fallen.
Since being stopped by Ortiz, he’s gone from stepping stone status, to confidence builder status.

Yoka was the 2016 gold medalist in Rio at SHW although many feel that they robbed Joyce against him in the gold medal match and also robbed Hrgovic in the semifinals match vs Yoka. Yoka was hyped as the French AJ although he doesn't have near the power. There was a bidding war among multiple top promoters and managers for him and Yoka turned down 1 million euro deals from PBC, Top Rank and K2 promotions, ended up signing a bigger deal with Ringstar promotions. I thought Top Rank would sign him since Arum usually gets most of the hyped olympians like Shakur etc. He's 6'7 and a good boxer but his main concerns in the pros is lack of power and suspect chin. The top SHW prospects from that 2016 olympic class all turned pro old, Hrgovic is 27 like Yoka, Dychko is 28, Joyce is 33 pretty much same age as Wilder, Ajagba the Naija is the youngest at 25 yrs old. Yoka would probably have more like 9 pro fights if he didn't get suspended for 1 yr for PEDs, this is his 1st fight back from suspension.

His wife is a female boxer also gold medalist in 2016 Rio

Never heard of the guy until you posted this video.

He's 27 with 5 fights?!?! What is with these guys waiting til they're basically in their 30's to go pro?

(Cubans excluded)

The question was kinda rhetorical. I figured the olympics more than likely played into the equation, but still. If going pro is the ultimate goal, what good is there in putting it off/waiting until you're close to 30 to do so?

I guess I get it if you value the olympics over being a professional.

I think for Hrgovic and Dychko its more so the Eastern Euro system, i mean they used to be like the cubans but even since they've been turning pro they usually wait until mid to late 20s. For Yoka, i think it was more so how lucrative winning a gold medal could be for him as most don't start their pro career with $1mil+ euros deal. For Joyce i think it's just b/c of how late he started boxing
