I feel for the little fella and I hope he can get over it in time.
He's hurting on 2 levels since the young lady he had a crush on "passed him over" for another guy.
This is exacerbated by the "other guy" being his best friend.
He might develop "trust issues" because of this and I hope he doesn't become "emotionally detached" towards women (I have 2 male cousins that have about 11 or 12 children each. I never asked them why so many, but I wonder if they just see women as "playthings" for sex and nothing more?)

When I was in the 6th grade, I remember conversing with my good friend "James" when Crystal W. walked pass us.
I had never seen her before and watched her as she approached and I was thinking "Damn, she's cute." James said "Hi" to her, but we never took our eyes off of each other. I asked James who she was and he told me that was Crystal she's the new girl.
The next day she wrote me a "love letter," and because I didn't write back within 2 days, she literally dumped me and wrote 3 of my good friends "love letters" telling each one of them that she liked them.
