Bill Cosby: Comedian Is 'Completely Blind' and Confined to Pennsylvania Home, Reports Say

Bill Cosby is now “completely blind,” said a well-placed source, who added that the embattled comic is “in his own personal hell.”

The disgraced comedian once known as “America’s Dad” is now confined to his Pennsylvania home with only his incomprehensibly loyal wife, Camille, at his side.

The source close to Cosby told us, “His alleged victims may take some solace in the fact that he’s in his own personal hell. He has been suffering from a degenerative eye disease and is completely blind . . . All his Hollywood friends have turned their backs on him.

“He is confined to his house in Pennsylvania, and the only person on his side is his wife, Camille, who is masterminding his defense. His only friends are the small army of lawyers on his payroll.”

Although his top lawyers, Brian McMonagle and Angela C. Agrusa, didn’t respond to questions from Page Six, Cosby’s sight has been slowly fading for some time. In January, Monique Pressley, another of his lawyers, said of his strange appearance in his mug shot, “He’s a 78-year-old blind man who they’ve chosen to charge. That’s not a defense to a charge, that’s just a fact.” It explains why he is led into court by lawyers and reps on both of his arms. (He turned 79 on July 12.) Since then, the condition has become far more severe.

He faces three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault from a 2004 case involving Andrea Constand, an employee at his alma mater, Temple University. She was the first of more than 50 women who’ve accused Cosby of sexual misconduct.

But, on Monday, a judge in his civil case ruled Cosby will be allowed to sue Constand — who claims he drugged and raped her in 2004 — for allegedly breaching a confidentiality agreement she signed with him after he settled with her out of court in 2006.

The Reverend Marvin Pentz Gay Sr. (October 1, 1914 – October 10, 1998) was an American minister of the House of God. He was the father of American recording artist Marvin Gaye and became infamous after shooting and killing himon April 1, 1984 following an argument at their Los Angeles home.

Alberta Gay later stated that her husband hated Marvin, as she told David Ritz in 1979:[6]

My husband never wanted Marvin, and he never liked him. He used to say he didn't think he was really his child. I told him that was nonsense. He knew Marvin was his. But for some reason, he didn't love Marvin, and what's worse, he didn't want me to love Marvin either. Marvin wasn't very old before he understood that.

Conversely, Gay Sr. said this about Marvin Jr.,[6]

It was important that I have a male child. A namesake is what I wanted. The day he was born, I felt he was destined for greatness. I thanked God for the blessing of his life. I thanked God for Marvin. I knew he was a special child.

Gay Sr. pleaded no contest to a charge of voluntary manslaughter on September 20, 1984.[37]

During the sentencing hearing two months later on November 20, Gay Sr. was allowed to talk. In tears and struggling to come up with words, Gay Sr., 70, told the court:

If I could bring him back, I would. I was afraid of him. I thought I was going to get hurt. I didn't know what was going to happen. I'm really sorry for everything that happened. I loved him. I wish he could step through this door right now. I'm paying the price now.

To Tell the Truth is an Americantelevisionpanel game show created by Bob Stewart and produced by Goodson-Todman Productions that has aired in various forms since 1956 both on networks and in syndication. The show features a panel of four celebrities whose object is the correct identification of a described contestant who has an unusual occupation or has undergone an unusual experience. This "central character" is accompanied by two impostors who pretend to be the central character; together, the three persons are said to belong to a "team of challengers." The celebrity panelists question the three contestants; the impostors are allowed to lie, but the central character is sworn "to tell the truth." After questioning, the panel attempts to identify which of the three challengers is telling the truth and is thus the central character.

The Five Stairsteps, known as "The First Family of Soul", were an AmericanChicago soulgroup made up of five of Betty and Clarence Burke Sr.'s six children: Alohe Jean, Clarence Jr., James, Dennis, and Kenneth "Keni", and briefly, Cubie. They are best known for the 1970 song "O-o-h Child", listed #392 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

So when did the word "shit" become so commonplace on basic cable?

giphy.gif

The major broadcast networks won a bit more freedom today, thanks to a Supreme Court decision involving the Federal Communications Commission’s rules for keeping swear words and naked people off live broadcast television.

The high court ruled (PDF) that the FCC is now prohibited from imposing fines and sanctions of any sort for verbal obscenities and indecency. TV stations are slowly gaining the same types of freedoms currently enjoyed by Internet publications, which aren’t limited by what they can communicate.

Previously, any TV network that was broadcast over the public airwaves (free public television via an antenna) was required to adhere to a set of policies. Basically, broadcast stations — like ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, and others — had to censor certain curse words within programming as well as any nudity. If any of these broadcast stations violated these policies, they got slapped with a huge fine from the FCC and subject to other setbacks.

To determine when a violation occurred, the FCC created a list of words you couldn’t say (and in what context), as well as what’s officially considered naked. ( I remember a Jimmy Kimmel segment from forever ago where he tested these limits by having attractive girls walk around with “3/4 cheek” short shorts.) Some cable programming followed the same policy due to the possibility of running in syndication on a broadcast station. This was an acceptable practice because theoretically anyone (even children) could gain access to a publicly broadcasted program, and initially there wasn’t an Internet to prove how unnecessary these kinds of regulations really are.

The Supreme Court’s decision didn’t, however, invalidate the FCC’s ability to set indecency rules — just its ability to enforce the rules through fines and sanctions. So, you still can’t say George Carlin’s Seven Dirty Words on television, but there is no penalty for breaking the rules now.

That said, I think broadcast content will stay relatively mild for now. But in the future, we might start seeing dead naked bodies on CSI for 30 seconds at a time, and uncensored versions of Home Alone during the Christmas season.

Oprah And Jackie Jackson Dating?

One of Oprah Winfrey's childhood dreams recently came true.

The talk show host, 56, was surprised by her longtime crush – Jackie Jackson of the Jackson 5 – while filming a segment for her Teen Heartthrobs episode.

Jackson, who popped up behind Winfrey unexpectedly at her desk with flowers while she was working and had no makeup on, says he was excited to make her dreams come true.
"It's been 10 or 12 years that she's been talking about me on her show, saying I was her favorite Jackson – I was her heartthrob," Jackson, 59, tells PEOPLE.

"My sister was on Oprah's show, and she came back and said, 'Oprah is in love with you. When she was a teenager, she had your pictures plastered all over her walls everywhere, and she thought she was going to marry you.'"

Added Jackson, "She looked up and saw me, and starts screaming. She couldn't believe it was me."

Judge Gives Man 60 Years In Prison For Driving With Suspended License
racist-judge-florida.jpg

Florida judge Matthew Destry is being called out for handing down a bizarrely harsh sentence to a young man who stood before him for a crime as minor as driving with a suspended license.

A petition to remove Judge Destry from the bench has been launched by the victim’s family.
They explain that Herbert Smith was sentenced to 60 years in prison for nothing more than a violation of probation due to a drivers license suspension charge.

The sentencing judge, Matthew Destry, presides over the Broward County Clerk of Courts.

Now, there is a Change.org petition against the judge for his clearly extreme sentencing. Read the following excerpt from the petition below:

On Tuesday November 24, 2015 a young man by the name of Herbert Smith was sentenced to 60yrs in prison for a simple violation of probation due to a drivers license suspension charge, by Judge Matthew Destry of the Broward County Clerk of Courts. This judge has been known for over sentencing people of color I’ve read several articles and several people have spoken about this judge as far as to how they were unfairly treated. We will not sit around and allow these types of injustices to go on we want justice. Minimum mandatory sentencing guidelines are a violation of our constitutional rights it gives the judge the right to lock people away and throw away the key, I’ve seen murderers and rapist get less harsher sentences, This judge is unfair and needs to be removed from the bench because he doesn’t have the best interest for people of color. Please sign this petition if you fully understand why it’s important to stand up against inequality and injustice in the courts.

According to Smith’s family, the judge has been known for over sentencing African Americans to the absolutemaximum penalties allowed under the law.
Now, friends, family and supporters of Smith are calling for the judge to be removed from the bench, due to what they consider discriminatory sentences practices.

If you agree, sign the petition and help SPREAD THE WORD!

The Food and Drug Association (FDA) has announced this morning that it has approved pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson's request to produce and sell tranquilizer dart guns specially developed to put kids to sleep.

The alleged new medical device would allow parents to put a child to sleep within 4 seconds, and is said to have no serious longterm consequences on the child's health.

There has been a high demand for such a device for years now, explains to us Ernie Knewitz, media relations vp over at Jonhson and Johnson. We have tested over hundreds of recipes to finally find one that doesnt cause too much damage to the brain despite regular use. We have finally found a mix of PCP and a heroin derivative that seems to do the job.

Black Jesus almost put Ebony Magazine out of business

8a7e394fefc20bae2e3993dca2c7caf1.jpg

The Quest for Black Jesus almost put Ebony Magazine out of business
In March 1969, Ebony Magazine was almost put out of business. Why? They published the March 1969 issue of Ebony Magazine with a Black Jesus on the cover. So many in the Black community was upset to the point of threatening to cancel their subscription. They sent Johnson Publishing pictures of what some called the "True (White) Jesus". In 2013, has anything changed in Black America about worshipping a Black Jesus? Is a White Jesus still the only picture of the "True Jesus" for Blacks?

In earlier responses to this posting I read lots of responses from awakened Black people calling those 1968 responses to the Ebony cover the actions of !!!!!. I'm not going to disagree, but the problem is much more complex than most people believe.

The indoctrination of white Jesus into the minds of Black people is one of the most successful psychological warfare programming in human history.

Critically think and ask yourself the following question: If everything of substance was taken away from the slaves ( reading, culture, language etc..) why was Christianity allowed?

The true reason why the white slave masters and white colonizers of Africa found it necessary to convert Black people into Christians.

Black people were not given the Christian religion because whites wanted to save our souls --in order that we Blacks may share heaven with them in the after life.
We know this to be irrefutably true because during the time when whites were converting Black people into Christians most whites perceive it that the Black people were inferior beings that did not truly possess souls.

In fact during the early period when whites where converting Black people in to Christians they at the same time declared Black people as not being fully human.
Because of these perceived reasons the whites colonizers and white masters believed that Black people actually could never truly enter the kingdom (of their perceived all white) heaven in an after life.

Because of their racist low opinions of we Black people those whites that converted our ancestors to Christians actually believed that the thought of a black person entering into heaven was as ridiculous as saying that a dog could enter into heaven.

When we honestly, logically and critically look at the fact we can easily say with great certainty that the white slave masters and colonizers were not trying to save the souls of Black people when they taught them the Christian religion.

The truth of the matter is that the Bible was used to subconscious brainwash the Africans
During the enslavement of the Africans in America and the colonization of Africa Black people were given a Christian religion that taught them to believe in only white deities. (a white God, white messiah, white angels and white prophets).

The reason for this was to instill the myth of white divinity into their collective minds of the African slaves.

These depictions of “white only” deities were deliberately done to subconsciously indoctrinate the false belief of white divinity [and therefore superiority] into the minds of the African slaves.

WHO EVER CONTROL YOUR CONCEPT OF GOD CONTROLS YOU!
To establish and then protect their positions of white dominance the white slave masters and colonizers believe it was necessary to instill the belief of white divinity into the minds of Black people.

The images of a white son of God intentionally makes the logical assumption that if the son of God is white then God (the father) must also therefore be white. This logical conclusion has resulted in many Black people consciously worshipping a white God.
The white colonizers and enslavers knew that by teaching Black people to consciously worship a white messiah and white God that it also caused them to subconsciously worship (or at the very least) admire white people.

[To consciously worship a white God is to sub-consciously worship white people.]
The belief that a white Jesus died for we Blacks also subconsciously instill within the collective black conscious a feeling of indebted to white messiah. This white worshipping religious indoctrination process was also used to make the African slaves docile, humble
and more loyal to their white masters.

From the perspective of the slave masters, this religious brainwashing process (perpetuating white divinity) made the Africans into better slaves.
Moreover this brainwashed conditioning of Black people has been left uncorrected and un-removed for generations.

The effects of that brain washing scheme initially implemented more than four hundred years ago still continues upon the mind of millions of African Americans. It is the reason why you can presently visit many black churches and find its walls stubbornly adorned with pictures of only white deities. To consciously worship a white God is to sub-consciously worship white people.

After catching break on a 60-year sentence, convicted robber accused of burglary
Rafael OlmedaContact ReporterSun Sentinel
A convicted robber who caught a break last year when a judge suspended his 60-year prison sentence was back in trouble with the law Monday, arrested in Parkland on a new burglary charge that could send him to prison for years.

Herbert Smith, 24, was in magistrate court Monday afternoon, but Broward CountyJudge Stephen Zaccor reset his appointment for Tuesday.

According to an arrest report, Smith and another man are accused of throwing a brick through the bedroom window of a home on the 6800 block of Northwest 66th Way in Parkland on Sept. 20. The men stole $30,000 in jewelry, including wedding rings, diamond bracelets and earrings, according to the report. Details on how Smith and the other man were identified was blacked out in the copy of the arrest report provided by the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Smith also has a probation violation hearing scheduled for Wednesday before Broward Circuit Judge Jeffrey R. Levenson.

Smith made headlines a year ago when Broward Circuit Judge Matthew I. Destry sentenced him to 60 years in prison for a string of robberies in the Pompano Beach area. Smith had already been given a probation sentence and violated it, leading Destry to impose the harsh sentence even though prosecutors were seeking less than a quarter of that.

Broward judge Destry resigns with 11 weeks remaining in term

"I thought if I gave you a taste of prison, you would never want to go back," Destry said then. "I was wrong."

What followed was a public outcry and a response that would ultimately cost Destry his job. Destry met with two Pompano Beach community leaders who promised to mentor Smith and help him find a job and stay out of trouble. One of those community leaders, Vicente Thrower, had worked with Destry's 2010 election campaign.

Destry agreed to reconsider his sentence and decided last Dec. 10 to suspend Smith's sentence, warning Smith that he would not see any more leniency if he committed another crime.

Destry accused of changing robber's sentence in exchange for campaign help

The judge was later chastised for meeting with the community leaders without notifying attorneys in the case and for creating the appearance of a quid pro quo — changing his sentence in exchange for either past or future campaign help. The state's Judicial Qualifications Commission filed formal charges in late September, and Destry resigned in mid October.

Destry had already lost his re-election bid on Aug. 30. His seat will go to former Broward Police Benevolent Association attorney Barbara Duffy, who was elected last Tuesday.

After his release, Smith found a job working with a Pompano Beach landscaper.

The man who gave him the job, James Jankowski, said Monday that Smith had not been working for him for at least two months. "I can just wish him the best on this," Jankowski said Monday. "Everyone deserves a second chance. Someone helped me when I was younger. But you have to want to help yourself first."

The Sears Christmas Wish Book, A Holiday Tradition
spacer.gif

The very first Sears Wish Book, known as the Sears Christmas Book catalog, came out in 1933. Featured items in this first catalog included the “Miss Pigtails” doll, an electric (battery powered) toy automobile, a Mickey Mouse watch, fruitcakes, Lionel electric trains, a five pound box of chocolates, and live singing canaries.

In 1933, Sears was already a familiar part of America’s Christmas tradition. The 1896 Sears general catalog included wax candles for Christmas trees. The 1898 Sears catalog added Christmas cards, and the first Christmas tree ornaments appeared in 1900. Sears began selling Christmas stockings and artificial Christmas trees in 1910. Electric Christmas tree lights made their debut in the catalog two years later.

The 1933 Christmas Book catalog started a tradition that made the Sears Wish Book an American icon. The Sears catalog and the name Wish Book were closely linked over the years. Prior to 1933, Sears customers often affectionately referred to the large, semi-annual, general catalogs Sears issued as the “Wish Book” or “Book of Wishes.” After 1933, the Wish Book name became synonymous with the annual Christmas Book catalog. In 1968, Sears made it official by renaming the Christmas Book catalog The Wish Book.

The 1933 Christmas Book catalog cover illustrated some of the featured items in the catalog. The next year Sears started a tradition by putting colorful, warm Christmas scenes on the cover. From then on, the Wish Book catalog covers regularly featured children, Santa Claus, and Christmas trees. In 1982, a Currier and Ives print graced the cover of the Wish Book.

Many people nostalgically think of the Wish Book as filled with nothing but toys. In fact, over the years, more pages were devoted to gifts for adults. The 87-page 1933 Christmas Book catalog featured 25 pages of toys and 62 pages of gifts for adults. In 1968, the Wish Book totaled 605 pages, with 225 pages devoted to toys and 380 pages to gifts for adults.

Nunzio is a 1978 American drama film directed by Paul Williams and written by James Andronica. The film stars David Proval, James Andronica, Morgana King, Joe Spinell, Tovah Feldshuh and Maria Smith. The film was released on May 12, 1978, by Universal Pictures.
Nunzio Sabatino (David Proval) is a grown man with the demeanor of a young child. He lives at home with his doting mother (Morgana King) and has a job as a bicycle delivery man for Angelo (Joe Spinell), the neighborhood grocer, which Angelo provides as a favor for Nunzio's brother Jamesie (James Andronica). Nunzio is fixated on elements of superhero stories; he wears sweatshirts that he has emblazoned with a shield and a capital "N" in the style of Superman's shield, along with a cape, and often walks and jumps across his neighborhood's rooftops, stopping short of actually trying to fly. Younger children enjoy his company, particularly Georgie (Glenn Scarpelli), whom he suggests will one day have to take his place as neighborhood do-gooder. However, he is also constantly bullied by a gang of youths, led by JoJo (Vincent Russo), who enjoy ridiculing his dress and taking advantage of his diminished faculties.

"My Ding-a-Ling" is a novelty song written and recorded by Dave Bartholomew. It was covered by Chuck Berry in 1972 and became his only number-one single in the United States. Later that year, in a longer unedited form, it was included on the album The London Chuck Berry Sessions. Two members of the Average White Band, guitarist Onnie McIntyre and drummer Robbie McIntosh, played on the single. Berry recorded a version called "My Tambourine" in 1968, but the version which topped the charts was recorded live during the Lanchester Arts Festival at the Locarno ballroom in Coventry, England, on 3 February 1972, where Berry – backed by The Roy Young Band – topped a bill that also included Slade, George Carlin and Billy Preston. Boston radio station WMEXdisc jockeyJim Connors was credited with a gold record for discovering the song and pushing it to #1 over the airwaves and amongst his peers in the United States. Billboard ranked it as the No. 15 song for 1972.
The song tells of how the singer received a toy consisting of "silver bells hanging on a string" from his grandmother, who calls them his "ding-a-ling". According to the song, he plays with it in school, and holds on to it in dangerous situations like falling after climbing the garden wall, and swimming across a creek infested with snapping turtles. From the second verse onward, the lyrics consistently exercise the double entendre in that the toy bells could just as easily be substituted with a penis and the song would still make sense. In the live Berry version, Berry makes the chorus a call-and-response, in which the women in the audience sing “my” and the men respond by shouting “ding-a-ling!” At one point, Berry notes that a few of the men are singing the women's parts and that some women are adding (audible in the recording) a harmony line; Berry allows and openly encourages it, exclaiming “it's a free country! Live like you wanna live!” In the final verse, he admonishes "those of you who will not sing" by suggesting that they "must be playing with [their] own ding-a-ling".

Houston Rapper Mr. 3-2 Shot and Killed
Mr.-3-2_11-14-2016-658x493.jpg

Sad news is hitting the Houston rap scene as H-town veteran Mr. 3-2 was shot and killed in the city on Friday (Nov. 11).

Investigators are still trying to put the pieces together, but according to ABC 13, the incident happened at a gas station in southwest Houston.

Police say, 3-2 was one of four men who were at the gas station who know each other. After two of the men went inside the store, one of the individuals outside pulled out a handgun and shot the Texas rapper in the back of the head.

According to authorities, the suspect then drove away, only to return and fire a shotgun at a second victim who was hit in the face. Bystanders were also hit by pellets from the blast. “Unfortunately the shotgun blast, not all the pellets hit its intended target and continued past and struck multiple other targets including another witness who was shot in the leg,” HPD Sgt. Michael Arrington said.

The suspect then fled the scene in a white or grey sedan, witnesses say.

Mr. 3-2, born Christopher Barriere, was well known on the Texas rap scene as a member of the famed Screwed Up Click. He released one solo album, but was a part of three groups The Convicts, Southside Playaz and Blac Monks under the Rap-A-Lot Records umbrella.

He is famously featured on the classic UGK cut “One Day” off their album Ridin’ Dirty. He has also worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG and others.

Snoop took to his Instagram to pay tribute to the slain MC. Posting a picture of the rapper, he captioned the pic, “Rest well. O. G. He the one who told me we don’t love dem hoes in 1991. Damn cuz ✨. Convicts. Lord. 32.”

The town of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee threw it's 32nd annual Dolly Parton Homecoming Parade on Friday, May 5, and while the entertainers, marching bands, festive floats, and military veterans who were promised to be in attendance, all showed up to honor the legendary singer, it might be noted that the American flag wasn't the only one flying proudly along the route. And while there might have been red, white, and green Cinco de Mayo representations out in public around some of the nation's diverse cities, there wasn't a Mexican flag in sight at the Parton parade. But there were a few Confederate battle flags.

Video of what appears to be the main representative of the Confederacy to walk the parkway got out on social media over the weekend, and it began to spread quickly once the recording began to find its way into Black circles. That's because the flag-barer at the 2017 Dolly Parton Homecoming was a hooting, hollering, Black man.

The 71-year-old Parton was indeed on hand and featured in an ideal sense as it's Grand Marshall. She is known for having come back and contributed to her Sevier County birthplace throughout her 50-year career. And while Parton isn't known for being a personal supporter of the Confederacy per se, many of the demographic of people among whom she was raised during her rural upbringing are. Thus the symbolism isn't exactly out of place at the singer's homecoming.

As the gentleman, dressed in the uniform of the Confederate soldier, travels along the route, the video picks up the voices of townspeople thanking him for his service. The person shooting the footage is heard asking that folks call New Orleans and request that they cease taking down historical Confederate monuments. As the recording comes to a close, the soldier and the cameraman engage, with the cameraman interjecting after the soldier asks a woman to talk dirty to him. "How's walk faster? Is that dirty enough?" he tells the soldier.

ESPN Pulls Broadcaster From Virginia Game Because His Name Is Robert Lee
The sports network said the move had nothing to do with “politically correct efforts.”

By Ron Dicker

ESPN confirmed Tuesday it removed Asian-American announcer Robert Lee from a college football game in Charlottesville, Virginia, because he shares a name with Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

It was a Charlottesville rally to preserve a statue of Lee that touched off violent protestsinvolving white supremacists earlier this month. The fallout includes a bitter national debate about the fate of Confederate statues.
So, Lee, who was scheduled to cover the University of Virginia’s home game against William and Mary on Sept. 2, has been reassigned to a game in Pittsburgh.

Some outlets quickly criticized the move as political correctness to the extreme. But in a statement to HuffPost contributor Yashar Ali, the network said it had practical reasons for its action: fearing that its employee would be subject to an avalanche of memes, jokes and other unwelcome publicity.

Lee did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Former Tower of Power lead singer Rick Stevens dies

The Tower of Power Band's Facebook page shared this image Tuesday, September 5, 2017 of former lead singer Rick Stevens, who died after a brief battle with cancer, according to news reports.
Rick Stevens, the former lead singer for Oakland’s own legendary R&B-based band Tower of Power, has died.
In a statement posted to the band’s Facebook page, bandleader Emilio Castillo remembered Stevens as “an extremely soulful singer and entertainer who had an engaging personality and a strong faith which he shared with all he came in contact with.”

According to KTVU Fox Channel 2, Stevens died Tuesday at age 77 after a three-month battle with cancer.
Singing on the band’s first two albums, Stevens belted its early hits, “Sparkling in the Sand,” and its monster follow-up, “You’re Still A Young Man,” Castillo said.
But the lows that followed Stevens included a prison sentence in connection with a fatal drug deal gone bad. Stevens spent more than three decades behind bars, quitting drugs cold-turkey and undergoing a religious conversion, before Gov. Jerry Brown paroled him in July 2012.
“I remember talking with him when he was released and I was skeptical about his ‘prison salvation’ experience. I told him that I really hoped he would take advantage of the tremendous opportunity that God had given him to help people to avoid the pitfalls he had fallen into. He went above and beyond the call of duty and carried his message of faith and redemption to many,” Castillo said Tuesday.

Lift Every Voice and Sing:The Black National Anthem.

Many people are surprised to learn that "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was first written as a poem. Created by James Weldon Johnson, it was performed for the first time by 500 school children in celebration of President Lincoln's Birthday on February 12, 1900 in Jacksonville, FL. The poem was set to music by Johnson's brother, John Rosamond Johnson, and soon adopted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) as its official song. Today “Lift Every Voice and Sing” is one of the most cherished songs of the African American Civil Rights Movement and is often referred to as the Black National Anthem.

The Exciters were an American pop music group of the 1960s. They were originally a girl group, with one male member being added afterwards. At the height of their popularity the group consisted of lead singer Brenda Reid, her husband Herb Rooney, Carolyn Johnson and Lillian Walker. "Tell Him," originally written and composed as "Tell Her," is a 1962 song that was written and composed by Bert Berns, who, when he did so, used the pen name of Bert Russell, and which was popularized through its recording by the Exciters. Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller produced the version by the Exciters, released as "Tell Him" in October 1962. "Tell Him" reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated 26 January 1963. A No. 5 R&B hit in the United States, "Tell Him" was No. 1 in France for two weeks and reached No. 5 in Australia.

Scopitone is a type of jukebox featuring a 16 mm film component. Scopitone films were a forerunner of music videos. The Italian Cinebox/Colorama and Color-Sonics were competing, lesser-known technologies of the time. By 1964, approximately 500 machines were installed in the US.[4] By 1966, reportedly 800 machines were installed in bars and nightclubs in the United States, at a cost of $3500 apiece. Several well-known acts of the 1960s appear in Scopitone films, ranging from the earlier part of the decade The Exciters ("Tell Him") and Neil Sedaka ("Calendar Girl") to Bobby Vee ("The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Baby Face") and Procol Harum ("A Whiter Shade of Pale") later on. In one Scopitone recording, Dionne Warwicklay on a white shag rug with an offstage fan urging her to sing "Walk On By".
