BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A 20-year-old Southern University student was taking part in a fraternity ritual off campus when he collapsed and later died, a source familiar with the case said.
Members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity were reportedly carrying out a ritual where pledges stand in line when the student collapsed, the source said.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
The student, identified as Caleb Wilson, of Kenner, La., was a member of the Human Jukebox, the school’s marching band.

Wilson was unresponsive when a group of friends brought him to Baton Rouge General Hospital on Bluebonnet Boulevard early Thursday morning, Feb. 27.
The group had been at North Sherwood Forest Community Park prior to being brought to the hospital, investigators said.
Hospital staff pronounced the student dead and called Baton Rouge Police at 3:15 a.m., triggering a death investigation.

bruh ...same thing happened to me but not by the chapter i was pledging but a visiting frat from another state......mofo hit the line on some BS. i didnt go to sleep until damn near midnight but woke up 2 hrs later with serious pains in my side. had to go to the hospital and call dad bc moms had already gave the warning before i even thought about pledging. I went to the hospital on base bc pops had the hookup and they said i had crushed nephrons in my kidneys which cause the red/brown urine and potentially have kidney damage from the blows. shit is waaaayyyyy outta hand with these frats trying to prove shit. the year before me, Morehouse lost a pledge from AphiA, then the Ques at MBC sent a mofo to the hospital, the CAU was off the hook with the pledges. finally the College Presidents was like enough is enough. they put out that if you got caught pledging, they were going to suspend your charter off the yard indefinitely.
i remember they had to bring in the grad chapters to oversee the new lines coming through....otherwise, wouldnt going to be no more lines coming through.

I'm not going to dox myself on here but I'm a member of a fraternity and also have stories to tell about pledging. Like you mentioned, it is always someone from another chapter fucking shit up. Your DP is supposed to reign that shit in but we know how hectic shop can get.

Side note: I met this brotha Joel A. Harris back in '89, this sista brought him by my dorm room. He was cool brotha from Morehouse, he had a fresh cut, and I can tell he had a style about him. Then about two months later he was dead. He died in a hazing event; he had a heart issue and that Alpha Phi Alpha hazing helped usher-in his death. Sad, that was his mother's only child.
