They are talking about spending a billion dollars to rebuild this nonsense. Sparrows point was in an area with the largest steel production in the world. Now due to high corporate tax rates hitting 35%, they went under in 2012 due to politicians like President Biden, Obama, or Clinton. If the largest steel plant with 33,000 unionized jobs was not out there,
I don't think it would be built today. It was about promoting the use of domestic steel for infrastructure, The steel for the bridge probably came from this plant. Now it is a nuisance hindering port work which is now the primary economic engine.
Today Sparrows Point is home to many distribution centers, fulfillment centers, training lots, storage lots, and the like, including those operated by Under Armour, Amazon, Home Depot, Volkswagen, and McCormick & Company.
It is just distribution center jobs loading product from suppliers to be sent out to stores in the region. They need to prioritize port safety and ease of transit, over building a bridge to nowhere. If you live up in North Baltimore and travel south, you can get to Sparrows Point easy to do your distribution center job.
