They are talking about spending a billion dollars to rebuild this nonsense. Sparrows point was in an area with the largest steel production in the world. Now due to high corporate tax rates hitting 35%, they went under in 2012 due to politicians like President Biden, Obama, or Clinton. If the largest steel plant with 33,000 unionized jobs was not out there,

I don't think it would be built today. It was about promoting the use of domestic steel for infrastructure, The steel for the bridge probably came from this plant. Now it is a nuisance hindering port work which is now the primary economic engine.

In its heyday in the mid-20th century, it was the largest steel mill in the world.

Today Sparrows Point is home to many distribution centers, fulfillment centers, training lots, storage lots, and the like, including those operated by Under Armour, Amazon, Home Depot, Volkswagen, and McCormick & Company.

It is just distribution center jobs loading product from suppliers to be sent out to stores in the region. They need to prioritize port safety and ease of transit, over building a bridge to nowhere. If you live up in North Baltimore and travel south, you can get to Sparrows Point easy to do your distribution center job.

Lets say they let China or other countries just dump their cars into the U.S. market. Tesla is unable to offer vehicles at that price and they file for bankruptcy, leaving this type of eyesore at Giga-Texas or Fremont after 80 years.

This failed trade policy by corrupt politicians with a corporate tax ranging from 53% to 35% over many decades is what did them in. Now you want to cover the eyesore up with distribution centers, Amazon Fulfillment jobs, that are practically temporary paying half the wages. What gets me is they attacked the quality of the steel or in the Tesla example attacked the quality of the vehicles as being the reason they went under.
The few jobs they created in Sparrows Point at Home Depot, Amazon, or VW pay a fraction of the wages or have less than 10% of the number of workers.

1. Quickly hide the eyesore and failed trade policy with logisics jobs and huge warehouses.
2. When the infrastruture is destroyed in an accident, quickly spend a $1 billion to help white flight avoid the city and to make it easy for a few hundred logistic workers get to their jobs.

The level of corruption is going to be spectacular w/ this new bridge!

It's going to be put up so quickly that not all contractors will be vetted properly.

President Biden decides not to rebuild the bridge that is being widely covered in the media, people will start asking questions. Than they will see a bankrupt company done in by poor trade policies allowing dumping by China of steel and high corporate tax rates.

1. When you are being deindustrialized they will trick off a Lebron or Michael Jordan to distract. Here they brought in a charismatic sports team, the Ravens that went to the Superbowl in 2000; actually won a second Superbowl in 2012 the same year Sparrows Point ceased operation. Lebron comes out of nowhere in Ohio hyped up to win a championship, Cleveland Indians. They had bankrupt steel companies that went under.

2. Other countries have public ownership of their steel industry that compete with privatized interest in the U.S.

3. All those black steel workers, lived in that iconic housing that was apart of the "The Wire". Dundalk, MD is predominately white, white flight out of the city.

4. This pretend news reporter from the Baltimore Brew is trying to spread propaganda on its demise. There was a concerted effort to spread propaganda after operations shut down in 2012.

There is alot of coverups, and rebuilding this bridge to help aid white flight avoid the city at all costs, should not be something I need to pay. Sparrows Point ceased operation in 2012 under the Obama administration.

They had a segregationist housing policy in Baltimore for awhile, which allowed them to tolerate us while providing high paying manufacturing jobs. Unfortunately where Dundalk, MD - an exclusively white area, having well paid black steel workers moving into the neighborhood, meant it had to be shut down through intentional mismanagement. The barriers to housing were removed by the Supreme Court, now they are shoving you into low paying, non-union jobs where you can't afford to live near whites.

All these coverup schemes and nonsense, is an example of why I can't roll in the U.S.

I had to retract my statement about P Diddy after further digging into the story, it looks like my timeline was off. There are still some links back to the WH wanting to rebuild at all costs even though it may not be warranted. The oddity of the Ravens winning a Superbowl and Sparrows Point shuttering in 2012 can't be overlooked. Lebron coming out nowhere and hyped up in Ohio. Steelers winning numerous Superbowls while industry declining slowly in the 70's.

I have also found suspicious behavior visiting some of these steel towns in 2013 that link back to the WH, and intimate knowledge of the industry.

No bailout was offered or reorganization plan to these steel companies affected by the financial crisis.

I suspect something like this happened in the U.S. but instead of attacking their companies and using sports team brought in by some lame billioinaire to distract, the EU will defend their own.

Steel mills were poorly sited near cities when much fewer people had cars and should be pushed out to remote areas. They burn coal to get coke for the steel which isn't good. Sparrows Point was chosen to receive steel from Cuba! It was to exploit waterways, but rail is a viable option now.

I started this thread as a good study in how poor trade policy can wipe out jobs for the black community. Here you can see the government complicity, parroting Chinese talking points that your domestic steel industry is not competitive, poor quality, and other unjustified attacks. I cite mainly Democrats, but this happened under Republican administration, Trump came in after I started looking around and tried to be tough on trade much the same way that Biden is visiting China out of the blue/talking tough.

This shows how other cultures have weird cultural beliefs that are incompatible with harmonious global trade.

The disturbing issue is how sports teams are utilized to distract a community when all of a sudden after 50 years the Cavaliers, Steelers, Ravens, or Lakers, they go to the NBA/NFL championship with some local sports hero that looks like it is pre planned. I found it odd that Kobe a local hero in that area gets shipped off to the Lakers; followed by Lebron much later.

I made some calls and helped get this port terminal setup at Sparrows Point. They tweaked my suggestion of removing the bridge and just expanded Sparrows Point. They are going to expand it significantly with grant money from the federal government.

Ships are going to avoid the Port of Baltimore at all costs if they stick this bridge back up that may not be needed, they are already facing a billion dollars in damage. If they have to foot the bill, you best believe they will go somewhere else. There is definitely some liability with the government not safeguarding these ships. If the power went out, the government should have had three layers of protection. We have seen in the past the government shoddy engineering practices that have killed people.

Here is the government raiding the ship trying to shift blame, abusing their powers.

We are getting progress on the Democrat and Republican front. Some good will come out of this tragedy, rushing out to get funding for the bridge to coverup some bad trade policy when there are dead bodies unaccounted is wrong. I am facing retaliation but it was well worth it. I have been a member of the USW for 22 years, I love working near a blast furnace.

I think the U.S. is down to 3% of total steel production in the world. Most of the Chinese steel companies are not even making a profit; however, if they can show some efficiency/trade secret that allows them to output steel like that. You do need to carve out some space for domestic production.

Another thing is the unemployment system which is almost government paid for in China versus employer financed in the United States. They can hire as much as possible and if things don't pan out the government is picking up the tab. A company grossly overhiring in the U.S. will get hit with higher UI taxes that will eat into their profit.

I didn't think it made sense for Sparrows Point to be located near major population centers, and it was a major polluter of the river, but for the whole company to go under.
