Sports fans- What would cause you to stop rooting for your team?

Did y'all know Barron Trump is at least 6'7???

And that's two years old when he was 15 so he could be taller now.

I'm no Warriors fan. I root for Steph & Draymond. As long as those two are in Golden State, I'm pulling for that team. (Klay is great, too.) After that, I have no stake in that corporation and I'll root for whatever player or group of players I like the most. That's the way to do it IMO.
I root for my team until the casket drop.

I don't put a deadline on when I'm done rooting for them.
You're rooting for a company until the casket drops and I'm rooting for humans who I like. Different strokes for different folks.

Is that even true? If they move to a better city like Vegas or Seattle, you'd root for them if they are the Seattle 42ers or Vegas 51ers in five years?

You'd still root for them to thrive if Trump bought the team tomorrow?

If Steph or Draymond come out for Trump tomorrow, fuck 'em. But that's not going to happen. Players > Teams

^^^
Makes my Trump question here even more relevant.

For those of you who root for teams, would you still ride with them if they draft 19-year-old Barron Trump in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft?

Beyond that hypothetical, what else would affect your fan status?

I could not have been a 49ers fan after Kaepernick, for instance.

It was my favorite player being traded that made me start for rooting for players rather than teams.

I get your point and it's interesting. With every Mike Tomlin interview I respect the hell out of that man so much more. The interview that Mike Tomlin did on the pivot was classic and showed the essence of the man beyond the football coach.

If I wasn't a Browns fan I could be a Steelers fan, but I can't be a Steelers fan considering how long I've hated them. I respect them though.

In the end, I don't have any control over what my sports team does. I knew Johnny Manziel sucked before the Browns drafted him and they drafted him anyway. It's just something I do for fun

That's a good example that I relate to-- I'm not a big football fan, would guess I could name maybe 10 but no more than 20 players at this point. But the Steelers are one of the teams I root for because of Mike Tomlin. Imagine not really knowing the players and rooting for Mike McDaniel, who said "I identify as a human being and my dad is Black; it’s weird that it comes up," over Mike Tomlin because you happen to be from Denver.

You do have total control over who you support! And it is more fun rooting for people who you like!

Im not going to say turn my back on the Steelers. But I wasn't feeling when Mason Rudolph was the starting QB. Because of his supposed relationship with Trump.

But I did cheer when Miles Garrett, "tried to help" Mason, out his football helmet on:giggle:

The day them damn San Diego Chargers became the Los Angeles Chargers was the day I walked away, like many of my Chargers brethren.

I followed the entire scenario from the late 90s, to the rise of Petco Park, to the Comic-Con/COnvention Center fiasco to the move.

The Spanoses were & are still wrong & they are paying for it! Forced to squat in another man's house, great potential on the team but can't win for shit.

The curse is on them. And the only way to make it right is to come back home.

But it might be too late...it's looking like we might get a new soccer team & a new basketball team in the future. That, plus the Padres becoming competitive & the possibility of the Gulls becoming a NHL team....the future looks bright for SD sports...without the Chargers.

I never really cared for football or the NFL, so completely dropping it after the Colin Kaepernick wasn't hard.

Pretty sure the only two NFL games I've seen since my early college days were the two Eagles/Patriots superbowls.

As for the NBA, I'm currently sitting out all Sixers games until at least the 2nd round of the playoffs. Their regular season don't mean shit, if they can't ever get outta the 2nd round.

You just watch and root for injuries?

Do you watch the NHL, soccer and lacrosse and root for everyone?

Yep hope they all get hurt...Naw I watch just purely for entertainment and when I gamble I need them to cover the spread, hit the over/under, and make me my muthafuckin money. And you know NHL, soccer, and lacrosse gets no play. But fuck all the teams and all the leagues I root for myself, family, and close friends and that's all I need.

This is insane…

Imagine rooting against your brother in the Super Bowl because he’s against “your team” that you don’t actually play for.

I stopped following the Vancouver Canucks when I moved to the Bay Area. Back home hockey is so ubiquitous you can watch the game at a restaurant in Chinatown. Out here it's limited to tech bros and rednecks. That's not my crowd.

Used to be an Oakland Raiders fan until The Town decided it was more important to fund schools than buy a new stadium for billionaires. We supported the team through multiple losing seasons, but the moment they didn't get what they wanted they bounced.

So fuck the Las Vegas Traitors. They need to switch their logo from a badass pirate to Benedict Arnold.
