Not a racer or a gear head but here's the thing about the Model S and basically the X, it does numbers at supercar and mid level at stock setting. It's just showing what is possible TODAY with a shift in thought. More traditional automakers have been putting a different focus on their vehicles but now, they are jumping aboard. I think Porche's quickest car may be an electric hybrid of some sort.

Back in the mid 90s, it took me years to convince one of my friends to get an electric motor for his RC car. After finally relenting and taking my advice, his winnings from races over the years put all of his children through college with a lot of help from the ignorant who though a combustion engine was superior to an electric one. I'd be crackin' up on the side watching cats he raced against come back week after week with a newer engine and higher octane to no avail.

0 to 100 is where the Tesla is so devestating. Not having to deal with a transmission means torque is transferred instantly from the motor to the wheels.
Some may argue Tesla is a one pump chump.
