they use to force us to watch it everyday even Saturdays ...we hated it...then my pops tried to motivate us to answer questions by giving us a 50 cents to a dollar for every question we got right...

we use to rack up during Teen week :dance:

now I find myself watching it more regularly

good memory:D

I remember I'm a Wheel Watcher ..

Whenever we DID watch all together things got type loud...

i'm not saying i didnt or couldnt watch tv growing up it just wasnt the main attraction for family time

understood...

all that I am saying is that there were more options for "family-type" shows back then even if we didn't necessarily watch them together...

but the few moments (both my parents worked) we did share those particular shows stayed with me..

and I can mention them till this day to my mom and siblings...

but now you would think with all the channels on TV now...

the shows aren't that good or have a many topics I find inappropriate for the family...

we would watch certain shows together and actually talk about it...

and laugh together...

there is such a disconnect now with kids and parents. most parents think ACTING like kids too is a way of bonding now:smh:

I remember that:D

they banned them for being a bad influence..

my sister got it for me anyway and I wore it under my uniform shirt and this white kid ratted me out:angry:

funny how NOW they are looked at so highly , theologians have written books on them...

the only animation my dad would watch was Bugs Bunny & Charlie Brown Holiday specials...

and nobody better interrupt either:hmm:

i REALLY miss those days:smh:

If you want your children to be good HUMAN BEINGS you would not get them hooked on that ritualistic drug called TV

just my 2 cents

The thousands of hours in front of the TV will be forgotten before they leave the house and start their own llife... trips to the beach ...family days ...and just talks... or hell board games are times they probably will never forget

i think that is OBVIOUS...

however the current generation doesn't really have the foundation to reinforce those practices and ideals...

I was JUST commenting on the lack of quality family programming...

My parents DID ALL THAT and TV too...

BALANCE!!!

My dad and me watched NOVA...

most families on do ANYTHING together...

and if I was home on Sat. I would watch Golden Girls with my mom...

what is SO WRONG about watching Jeopardy together on a weekday as a group and talking and sharing???

TV is the most evil invention in the world...

no need to derail the discussion...

I'm just saying at least in MY view TV was a little bit safer...

:lol:the thread title didnt say anything about back in the day. Well growing up we watched pretty much watched the same dam thing because there was only 2 tv's for 7 people:lol: My parents had there tv then had to share the other tv. I hated that ghostwritter bullshit back when that shit was on. It took away from videogame time on sundays. My moms and sisters is into that basketball wives and all that other bullshit now. My dad watches nothing but westerns i cant stand that shit most of the time. But i put up with it whenever i visit.

4 real, as for your sister, even though I love "Modern Family", that gay couple is just not suitable content for very young kids, same goes for all the gay kids on "Glee".

About a third of TV shows on network primetime have a gay person on them, they easily outnumber "us", in fact, Indian seems to have become the new "Black".

The main thing that I noticed now too is that EVERY prime time sitcom makes use of the word "bitch", and I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE, up to and including that new show with "bitch" in the title! (which is quite funny, btw)

How do you seriously explain to a 5 year-old not to use the word when they use it on a "family" show?!?

I was comparing to the two generations...

funny how our upbringing had so many similarities:cool:

a lot kids 2 TVs...

loved ghostwriter fam:lol:

cant watch reality shows and don't really let kids watch either...

only ones wife and I watch is Amazing Race and occasionally that MTV one...

for some reason IF the TV is on its usually Nick Jr or Food Network or ESPN ...

and my dad had a stroke and is suffering with alzheimer's and one thing we can still share is his love for westerns...

i was never a fan but I love them now...:D

Lol, same goes for CBS' "Touched by an Angel"!

Also, remember that we could watch cop and medical shows together, shows like "Kojak" or "Quincy", today's shows, while educational for teens, show too much blood and detail for young kids, ish like arterial blood spatter and a cgi image of a bullet going thru internal organs, remember back when someone was killed there would be a close-up of them screaming and the next scene would be a body surrounded by a chalk outline and police tape!

Lol @ 2 TVs, these kids don't know, my parents had theirs in their bedroom and then we had one 13" color TV in the living room, and when Marshal Dillon was doing his thing on "Gunsmoke" DAD WAS NOT TO BE DISTURBED!!!

I remember being happier than a pig in slop when I got a 19" black & white TV when I turned 10 or 11, YOU COULDN'T TELL ME NOTHING!!!

I got to watch "Abbott & Costello" @ 11:30 on the Sundays that we didn't go to church.
