It looks like a key Dunder Mifflin employee might have put in a transfer request.
Oscar Nuñez, who played levelheaded accountant Oscar Martínez on the American version of
The Office, will appear in Peacock's follow-up series to the classic workplace comedy,
Entertainment Weekly has learned.
Nuñez marks the first cast member from the original show to join the new series, which is being headed by
Office co-creator Greg Daniels and
Nathan For You's Michael Koman. The yet-untitled spinoff will follow the employees of a faltering local newspaper in the Midwest who are being filmed by the same documentary crew that captured Dunder Mifflin's antics in the original show.

Domhnall Gleeson (
About Time) and Sabrina Impacciatore (
The White Lotus) were first cast to play two of the primary roles on the show, and Melvin Gregg (
Nine Perfect Strangers), Chelsea Frei (
Poker Face), and Ramona Young (
Never Have I Ever) were later announced as costars. Gbemisola Ikumelo (
A League Of Their Own), Alex Edelman (
Just For Us), and Tim Key (
The Witchfinder) are also on the call sheet.
The show will see guest appearances from Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts.

Nuñez appeared on 189 episodes of
The Office between 2005 and 2013. His character was one of the more sensible and sympathetic employees at the paper company, which was almost exclusively populated by unpleasant oddballs.
Nuñez's other screen credits include the TV series
Benched,
Mr. Iglesias, and
Lucky Hank, and movies like
The Proposal,
Baywatch,
The Lost City, and
Disenchanted. His involvement in the
Office spinoff was
first reported by the Insneider.
Oscar's presence in the spinoff suggests that the door could be open for any number of other cast members from the original show to guest-star.

One cast member insisting he won't appear on the new show is
Steve Carell, whose Michael Scott served as the protagonist in the
Office's first seven seasons.
"I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It's just a new thing and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that,"
Carell told The Hollywood Reporter. "But I'm excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it's set in a family newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads. I did
The Patient with him and he's an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it'll be great."
