Do crime mafia families still exist in the US or is it a thing of the past where they have just completely disappeared, dissolved or completely gone underground in hiding. Nowadays you hear about other crime organizations in the news or social media except the mafia.
RICO pretty much cleaned that bullshit up overall. They are still some out there but they're moving a lot differently now. More coorporate crooks pretty much. Remember in long Island a few years ago there was an indictment with Mafia members of the Genovese and Bonanno organized crime families. Then there was a hit where a delivery guy walked up to an old crime bosses door and killed him in broad daylight. Shit was connected to that case. Neighbors didn't even know dude was an old Mafia boss. They still out there.

My uncles have briefly mentioned about the mafia trying to shake down black businesses in the 70's and then again in the 90's in my city but it didn't work for the most part cause to had still be around and in business most had to do something illegal to keep things going or sell to the arabs.
