The Postal Service™ is temporarily suspending international mail acceptance for certain destinations due to inadequate transportation options or service disruptions within the country. Customers: please refrain from mailing items addressed to the countries listed here, until further notic

Starting today, the U.S. Postal Service is suspending acceptance of packages from the Chinese and Hong Kong postal services “until further notice,” according to its website.

The flow of letters and flats will not be affected, the Postal Service said.

The website did not give a reason for the suspension. The United States enacted a 10% tariff on all Chinese goods imports and closed a trade loophole known as the “de minimis” exemption that allows exporters to ship packages worth less than $800 into the United States duty-free and with minimal scrutiny.

The loophole has helped fuel the success of China-linked online retailers such as Temu and Shein, with cost-conscious U.S. shoppers ordering hundreds of millions of packages a year.
