The only Black museums I'm donating to. One is the NMAAHC in D.C. and the other is the International African American Museum in South Carolina. Oh wait there's no admission price to the museum in D.C.

Yep, I appreciate the realness honestly.

You probably wouldn't feel the same if you never lived in that situation but I did and I appreciate dude for the bluntness and saying what we all say everyday in the streets. Like MJ said

Of course Tariq got a fine wife and like 6 kids, of course he gonna hustle niggas, he's a youtube cat living around chris brown and laker players, he gonna get niggas to buy in to keep up his lifestyle.

But what difference is that between BLM raising 90 million and giving more to the BD than the parents of black men killed by police? Or Van Jones getting 100 million from Jeff Bezos without showing where it's going? Or going to some LGBT organization? Or some HBCU that 90% of nikkas never been a part of? Why say the "black community" and give all the funds to only the top 10% and the 90% get lip service and thoughts and papers? Or Obama singing "I will survive when a cac murders church folks?

You see where I going with this? I don't hate Tariq but he's better than the democratic coon plantation using the hood niggas struggle just to seat up with white people, or Shannon Sharpe talking about his blackness and hating officers who kill black men but publicly saying sisters don't know how to act?

At least tariq will take my money, hop in his bentley but won't lie to my face? He makes me feel like I got some stroke out there, the democrats are outta touch. Niggas out here making 18.50 working for the post office in the sun with no AC and we supposed to care about some HBCU niggas with a uppity wife who look down at regular folks? Cmon man...

All Tariq does is lie in your face.

You said he is honest but he ain't asking you for your money to keep his lifestyle, he is asking for your money for some uplifting cause and then keeping it.

Dude is no better than those Sunday morning prosperity pimps asking for your money so you can buy your way into some glorious afterlife ....Sen in 500 seed money to watch your blessings grow.

Do you think he is doing you a favor by regurgitating somebody else's work and research and packaging it like it's brand new and a revelation?

I respect the 18.50 and hour mofokr cause he working to earn his.

Tariq is relying on mofokrs to give their hard-earned cash to him on some bullshit.

He on some PT Barnum shit and mofokrs still fall for it.

but do you bro....

How is he lying in your face when he called out Biden for what he done in the 90s and 9=80s first to black people, the media started talking about it because the grassroots talked about it. Why is it all of a sudden the media is talking like the streets? What's their incentive to do so unless they feel pressure from a growing number of blacks doubting them?

You dudes who hate Tariq make no sense, you call him a pimp and a hustler but don't even listen to his shows, you don't care about him and are trying to discredit him at any chance you get but what is your alternative? Another former frat HBCU brother who rolls in circles most blacks know nothing off? Kamala Harris was sister girl at one point too. Some was Obama and now he's afraid to even say the word black.

I respect tariq more then these democratic clowns, what is their to respect? Stacey Abrams said openly you can't say just black because other groups will feel offended, Tariq said this YEARS ago no one wants to really deal with us? John Henry Clarke said this too "You have no friends".

YOu guys know this so why act stupid?

Honestly the perception that Tariq and all these hoteps are broke niggas and that's more than enough for you to discredit them, you'd rather believe some boot-lick put in office by white people who's job is to calm down the negras before you believe a brother at the corner, it's perception and y'all know it.

BGOL mad at a independent black man wants black folks to work with each other instead of phony liberals divesters
This is the part that is so disappointing with us.

Umar: His school is a great idea. What he says in his lectures is spot on. His execution in preparing the school is lacking, but he hasn't scammed anyone. He bought the building, but isn't a good project manager. His stubbornness prevents him from seeking real assistance. Good idea, poor execution. No foul here.

Tarik: A museum focusing on history that is purposely kept from us is a great idea. His videos are full of good information, particularly for those who are new to this type of information. He grossly underestimated the cost of such a project. With property values rising exponentially coupled with the increasing cost of materials, 7 million was relatively low. He should hire a consultant to properly create a realistic budget and readjust his figures accordingly. Good idea, poor execution. No foul here.

Jay: Practicing group economics is one of the fastest ways to help those without access to large capital increase their wealth. Additionally, the idea of rebuilding "black wallstreet" is/ was a noble one, but, have any of you been there? Those days are gone. Why? Because white businesses are choking the area. This is coupled with the exodus of successful black professionals. For example, noone who graduates medical school says, Oklahoma is my first choice of where am going to practice. Regarding his group business venture, it was 100% legit. The fact of the matter is, not all ventures are successful. It's like me losing money in the stock market and then saying "oh, the stock market is a scam because I lost money." That's how investments work. The potential to lose or win both exist. Good idea, poor execution. No foul here.

What we don't realize is that the hate or skepticism is so strong in our community that it discourages others from wanting to help or try anything from fear of over-scrutiny.

I have non-profit. A consultant firm advised me to focus on white first to build credibility, then pivot to black. It worked. We do not get treated like most other "black" businesses. It's sad that we had to maneuver this way.

Brother, did it ever occur to you that you can say "fuck em' all"? You don't have to pick a side here. When people begin their point with "at least" you've already lost. I don't like the republican party, the democratic party, poverty pimps or race hustlers. I'm perfectly fine NOT choosing a side. I get all the benefits when they do the right thing and none of the blame when they inevitably fuck up.

Regardless of Umar's good intentions, he's still sitting on money that is not being used as intended. The fact that he's stubborn is a series issue. He's been very cryptic about how much he's raised and what he's doing with the money at this point. We won't even get into the accreditation issues he's going to have, since he doesn't want to follow current academic guidelines.
Plus everyone forgets he was trying to guilt folks into providing FREE labor and supplies towards fixing up his building.

Tariq literally wrote tweets talking about how stupid the idea of black museums were and all of a sudden he's asking for 7 million to build a museum in a major city. Mr. expert how realistic is it to buy land, build a museum, staff it, maintain it, stock it with exhibits for 7 million (especially if he sticks with trying to do this in California)? Also, again you ain't getting the money from the rich, you are asking everyday folk to maintain this project for life.

Jay's Oklahoma fund was not geared towards people that could afford to loose the money in a risky investment. In fact, it seems folk with money stayed away from it. The only people that seem to loose out, where the ones that couldn't really afford to loose money in risky ventures. From my understanding, he walked away with half a mill, while everyone else walked away with pennies at this this point. You can pretend all you want about this just being just another business venture that could have gone either way. However, anyone who watched any of his videos about the fund, could see he was playing on black folks emotions when trying to get this thing funded. Yes, his was the most legit out of all of them, still doesn't mean that his legit venture wasn't a hustle that burned quite a few people.

Why do folks pretend that black folk stealing from naive, poor black folk is not much worse than than when white folks do it? People looked up to these folks and expected them to look out for them because of the color of their skin. "Family" robbing "family" is always going to sting worse than when a stranger does it. You know it and I know it too.

Finally, you complain about black folk being too judgemental when it comes to black projects. However, these three had the audience to get their projects off the ground, excessive scrutiny or not.

By the way, I bet you would be the first to tell folk they should have done their research if someone feels like they were taken advantage of.

Not at all. In fact, it is important to scrutinize all ventures. Unfortunately, white ventures do not receive the same skepticism as black ventures. My initial post was not to excuse their poor execution. My post was intended to shed light to the idea that a bad outcome can come from good intentions. I believe this is the case in all three situations.

Yes, they also attempted to enrich themselves in the process. I see nothing wrong with that. Every successful non-profit does this. People willingly donated, bought product, invested, etc. The heads of these ventures deserve to pay themselves. Why should they work for free.

Although you and I do agree that these folks should be paid for their work, the issue for most folks, and me, is that these people make money no matter what and often times they make it worse by trying to hide their financial statements.

In every instance we discussed, these folks paid themselves first at the expense of the project they were trying to promote. In cases like this, they should receive no personal profit until after their project have taken off.

To be clear, I'm not saying that their reasonable expenses shouldn't be covered. I'm just saying that these projects shouldn't make up the majority of their lively hood if they still in the talking stage.

We all know black non-profits will be scrutinized harder. It is why they need to come correct with the financial paperwork. When they start getting dodgy with the reveals, it makes them look guilty of stealing by default.

Donations???

Kevin Samuels was a content creator. He was the product which negates the need for a book.

I agree, I think the Tariq hate is unwarranted. He provides a product. People can choose to buy or not. However, it's difficult to understand why the people who do not buy his product get so upset at those who do buy his product and are happy with his or her purchase.

If I buy a hooptie from a car dealer and I love the car, why get mad at the car dealer for selling me the hooptie?
