As a data scientist, I must point out that 2020 was an outlier on overall unemployment (I was furloughed because of Covid) and we can’t pretend it didn’t happen. By doing so, it creates a bias on how data is interpreted.

The only way that chart can make sense with less bias is going back at least another 10 years.

A "data scientist" would know the effects of certain types of measurements of central tendency, to which it seems like you were trying to allude with your observation.

A good "data scientist" would likely use methods other than those that lend themselves to criticisms of this sort.

If the unemployment rate was affected by the pandemic (of course it was), it was affected across the nation. Whatever effect sampling error had would have affected non-black people as well.

There is also the nasty little fact that black people tend to hold lower end jobs, just above what Mexicans take in status. Those are the ones who were MORE LIKELY to be working during that period.

So, the chart could make sense. One has to know specifics with respect to methodology, but of course, understanding that requires knowledge of statistics.

Yours is suspect, given your statement.

Just sayin'.
