I generally don't like to ignore folk. As a moderator, I consider it my responsibility to be available for even the folk I don't like. However, there are 6 individuals who have so vexed me in the past, that I ignore them for my own sanity and so I don't have to come out of character and cuss folk out on a regular basis.
As I said my healthcare and job could be affected by this election. I have family and friends with kids who are special needs that rely on federal funding from the DOE for their schools that could be affected by this election. I have a niece that had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago and other family members of childbearing age who could be affected if a national abortion ban is in place. We have long time members on this board from other countries who could have family deported or citizenship revoked. I was in a space the other day with a woman crying her eyes out because her husband who is a naturalized citizen wants to leave because he is afraid Trump will come for his citizenship. It broke my heart. And just like policing, it will be selective. They won't be going after white illegals, who make up almost half of the illegals via visa overstays. Trump and Stephen Miller will be coming for Black and brown folk. The folks celebrating Trump may be well enough off to be able to take care of family who lose social security and benefits, but I'm not. Anyone in my family receiving social security needs it and is counting on it. And we have these silly azz kneegrowz dancing around and celebrating because a black woman and dems got defeated, like there are not real possibly life and death issues in the balance for people. Not to mention the emboldening of racists and sexists. How would you respond if someone walked up to your wife or daughter and told them, your body, MY choice? The fear and mental trauma is going to be bad for our girls. It's not just the basic bullying that kids don't already get enough help for. They are getting threats of rape and everything else. The men and boys doing it feel they have a mandate for it. Men are supposedly supposed to protect women. All we feel is less safe. Its not just a feeling. We are ACTUALLY less safe. There is a cultral shift being led by white men that involves actually terrorizing women now and they are being celebrated and validated for doing it.
Both Romney and McCain had to push far right into some concepts they didn't fully embrace in order to be "the candidate" and appeal to the base. Opposing "Obamacare" was basically a required position.
