Interesting comments. I think a lot of it is because of how fast Android is making headway, and that's the market share they're going to eat in to. Not iPhone or Windows.

A striking amount of honesty from an industry cat. Much of what he said about Google is true. It IS big brother software in the making.

Dude kept it 100.

The interviewer had to make sure that he knew that the camera was running.

Too bad we don't have any Symbian devices here in the states.

extremely misleading thread title aside, great interview. The assessment was entirely truthful, but that is Android's operation. It is not for the phone companies, it's for Google. I understand the desire to interface with the user group. However, phone companies should just be focusing on the hardware anyway.

He did keep it 100 on alot of comments, BUT fuck symbian:hmm:

Symbian is not coming with that heat and they tend to partner up with Sony and Nokia and drop overpriced devices that can't compete to the market. Nokia switched to Maemo for N900 and with a 650-700 likely price vs Iphone 3Gs starting at 199, and Moto Droid coming out.....

Sadly, Nokia won't ever do the dance with US carriers. I overpaid for my N95-4 back inna day, but I didn't like my US choices. These North American carriers ain't shit, and Nokia doesn't need them. They lead all cellphone sales EVERYWHERE else in the world but here.

Should that fact change, then we'll see. If Nokia leads the way, then Symbian will likely follow.

Pretty much

I found this interesting

It was right after our Mobilize 09 conference it became clear that 2010 was going to be the year of Android, thanks to a growing number of Android-powered handsets from makers such as Motorola and Samsung. Some analysts are forecasting that by 2012 it would be the second most popular smartphone OS, behind Symbian, the OS that powers most of Nokia’s high end phones. According to Gartner, Android’s share will be at 18% of all smartphones sold globally in 2012, or about 94 million users out of 525 million.

Symbian needs to get with someone better than Nokia. They may need to up their partnership with Samsung if they want to get into the US market. Oh and please believe they DO want into this market. The opportunity for profit is too high to continue to let the US market stay in the dark about Symbian.

However as of right now Symbian is shooting themselves in the foot.

basically he wants his company to do what android is doing but mostly in asia...custom devices using symbian in different styles tailored/custom etc...his beef is android is building a file per customer to send them products they may like? well in 1.6 of android u can deny google any info on you in terms of location based services. he kept it real but he also seems as tho he is a bit angry that android little over a year will bumrushing the mobile industry and going for that number one spot. i mean verizon is launching 3-4 android devices by chistmas. Tmo has 3 soon to 4 themselves...sprint has 1 maybe more and thats just 2009 plus u can preorder unlocked ones like the acers and geekone's etc.

i get it a lot of mobile os makers are mad i know the LiMo makers were mad that android didn't join them and this dude mentioned that android didn't join symbian...simple answer is symbian isn't that strong in north america and b/c it wouldn't android it would be symbian.

if cats want to stop android make a better product a better os with better hardware that affordable to end users promote it and product place it and users will come.
if nokia came strong with that maemo os or a strong symbian os that was affordable they'd be strong in north america instead the cost a good 600 to 700 hundred for a phone with an os that doesn't give many users benefits...hell nokia delayed the n9000 recently...

i respect dude's honesty but he seems more upset that he isn't eating at the same table as google.

notice how his whole value proposition is targeted at carriers. google and apple build for users, thats why they win.
