I felt like it was only right that I make this thread. Since we have some of the largest metro areas but no major sports teams or many widely respected Hip Hop artists from here we are one of the most slept on states in the country. When I run down the contributions Virginians have made to music and sports a lot of my out of state friends are shocked. I'll attempt to re-create one of those convo's with the fam...

I spend 1/3 of my time in the Richmond area. I guess its easier to list the positives than the negatives. I won't list all the negatives , but I will say Richmond had the Atlanta Braves triple A farm team and lost them.Support is something, mentality is everything.

Haven't figured out they can't take Badnews with them. It's the mentality of most people from VA and especially Newport News.

what you gotta realize is that there are 2 different VAs (culturally atleast)

there's NOVA and The rest of VA (some people even say NOVA, Southern, Central and Western)

Even tho you might include VA you gotta realize that once you get above Fredricksburg, anyone hot is officially considered to be from DC and not from VA anymore.

(I'm from Woodbridge, NOVA myself)

That's funny cause us Tidewater (as ya'll call us) cats believe that everything outside of 7 cities is Northern VA. I like certain go-go joints but that shit is mostly foreign to me.

Yeah, we need a major sports team. Not in Norfolk though. Traffic's already bad enough because of the naval base.

Traffic in Northern Virginia is worse. Va is ultra conservative. Being an old state steep in history it is hard to bring change. I agree with the statement that when you get above Fredericksburg that you are considered from DC. People in Maryland have the same attitude.

Washington DC is a great place to be from. FAR AWAY FROM!!!!!

I went to HS with Al Toon (Menchville HS),Boxed with Sweetpea at Naval Hospital Portsmouth when he was a teenager Pearl Bailey is from Bad News, Ralph Sampson and David Robinson (Whom I played against while in the Navy) are from Harrisburg and Robinson was raised in Woodbridge! Aaron Brooks, Ronald Curry are from Bad News and Hampton! Pretty good post!

Damn good post homie! Went to Menchville too ('92-'94). I went to high school with Ronald Curry (graduated from Hampton ('96). Just talked to him and Bobby Blizzard recently. Forgot the homie AB (Ferguson!)!! Didn't know David Robinson was from here and I thought Sampson just played for UVA. I'm sleeping! Too many cats to name:D. Good looks on Pearl Bailey too. The library where I found my love for books is named after her. I wanted to throw Antoine Womack in there too. That's my homie. Didn't know if cat's remembered him...:cool:

Most of the talent from NNVA and Hampton comes from the HRBC (Hampton Roads Boys Club)That place saved my LIFE I should've been dead, jail or fucked up!! The Vicks, Iverson, Curry, Brooks spent time there!. I remember Boo Williams from Phoebus and football HOF Dwight Stephenson (Hampton High) from HS! BGOL please don't sleep!

Curry was older but you're right. This cat was a better football player then all of them though. Best I've ever seen and I watched all them boys. I remember sitting in Todd and Darling Stadium of Friday nights like:eek: The ninja never left the field! Quarterback, safety, kickoff returner, punt returner, I think the boy was even the punter! Damn I miss these days...

He lived in Stuart Gardens for awhile when I was growing up. I'll never forget he used to dribble up and down Garden Dr. between his legs. Now anybody familiar with Stuart Gardens can tell you how long Garden Dr. is. When I mean dribbling between his legs I mean he never took a STEP without putting it between his legs. If he fucked up he would go ALL the way back to the Roanoke end and start over!! I tried to emulate that shit and could never do it too much longer than my parking lot. Memories...
