I could be wrong but I think I read that herd immunity only sets in when 70% (or more) of the population has either had COVID-19 and recovered from it, or they've been vaccinated... those 2 numbers added together have to equal 70% of the population

So you're looking at 70% of roughly 331 million people... 231 million people need to contract and recover from COVID-19 or they need to be vaccinated.

We currently have 29 million cases in the US.
27 million people fully vaccinated as of 3/1/21.
518k deaths in the US as of 3/1/21.

If we really think herd immunity is the way to go there will be MILLIONS of deaths in the US. I don't feel like doing the math but y'all can get the picture.
Word; really? Those are the numbers for it to work? Damn, I didn't know that. This shit is even more dire than than originally thought.

just imagine that once this shit gets under control.....a new virus emerges and we gotta start all over again.....
They were talking about rhino virus is currently taking over Japan and could be here in the fall. I feel its the quarantining, people are not used to other people's germs and get sick easily being around them again.

When my kid was born, she stayed home with my wife for a minute and we were extra careful with who was around her/us. By the time she went to daycare; she would get sick, and in turn so would we. It seems like we were all catching something, colds, stomach viruses. Even allergies which never affected us before. It was brutal.

I believe there is going to be some serious growing pains once this is over

Bruh you not catching on to what im saying. If it took a year for 500,000 people out of 330,000,000 million people to die of COVID19.Then thats not a pandemic. That about almost an average death rate a year we would normally have if we didnt have COVID19.You mean to tell me the goal is to vaccinate almost 330,000 000 million people. You are talking about vaccinating people who are not even sick that dont have any symptoms. You are talking about vaccinating all asymptomatic people. This is not a pandemic this is an agenda.Because it doesnt scientifically take all of that and you seem to be supporting this non sense and getting mad at other people for refusing to take part in this non sense.

"Pandemic" means it is all over the world. And are you aware that covid has statistically DROPPED the average American life expectancy? Half a million people have passed who otherwise would not have, all things considered. It has dropped Black male life expectancy by THREE years!

now Abbott is blaming the spread of covid in the state on migrants from Mehico.....lol
He's feeding his base giving them their freeDUMBS and have everything open with no restrictions, but also justifying the upcoming increase in Covid19 cases due to his carelessness by blaming the messicans....

Not buying it playboy.Whites are by far the most affected with COVID19 by the real true numbers.Blacks may be percentage wise because of there certain of number of people population, but whites are still by far and large the most affected group with covid19 out of anybody.(facts)

There's nothing factual about that.

The only ethnic group more greatly impacted by COVID-19 are Indigenous Americans.

Indigenous people have 210 deaths per 100k infected

Black people have 155 deaths per 100k infected..

This shit can so easily be researched the your willful ignorance to do so lead me to believe that you only want to argue.

I think if all the magas moved to Texas like they’re doing would be great. They’ll be bordered by Mexico. Kinda dumb. But great

Utility commission refuses to reverse $16 billion in ERCOT overcharges

Texas utility regulators have rejected a recommendation that they reverse about $16 billion in overcharges for wholesale electricity that were racked up during the massive failure of the state's utility grid last month because of a pricing error by the grid's operator.

“It's just nearly impossible to unscramble this sort of egg," Arthur D'Andrea, the new chair of the Public Utility Commission, said during a commission meeting Friday.

Potomac Economics, a Virginia-based firm that's paid by the state to provide an arm's-length assessment of the Texas power grid, recommended Thursday in a letter to the commission that the overcharges — which were billed to retail electric providers, distributors and others — be reversed by retroactively lowering wholesale electricity prices over a 32-hour period beginning Feb. 18.

More: ERCOT overcharged power buyers by $16 billion amid calamity, monitor says

More: Will ERCOT grid disaster lead to higher electricity rates for Texans?

The overcharges occurred because the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which oversees the grid and is commonly known as ERCOT, kept wholesale prices at the maximum level allowable — $9,000 per megawatt hour — during the that 32-hour period. ERCOT should have stopped intervening by then and instead let supply and demand determine pricing, Potomac said.

The Public Utility Commission oversees ERCOT. At ERCOT's request, it initially set the price at the $9,000 cap — from a market price of about $1,200 at the time — early in the crisis during a specially called meeting Feb. 15.

During a brief discussion Friday of Potomac's recommendation, D'Andrea said that resetting prices at this point would set off far-reaching consequences that can't be predicted but likely would trigger a new set of complications.

In addition, he said the commission faced an immediate deadline to decide the issue in order to bring certainty to markets.

“I’m not inclined to do it today," he said. “Decisions were made about these prices in real-time (by wholesale buyers and sellers) based on information that was available to everyone.”

His fellow commission member, Shelly Botkin, agreed.

The three-member Public Utility Commission is down by one member because DeAnn Walker, the former chair, resigned Monday.

A number of state lawmakers, including Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, had called on Walker to step down after her highly criticized testimony last week during legislative hearings called to look into the grid failure. Bill Magness, CEO of ERCOT, was fired Wednesday night after also testifying during the hearings.

Even if the commission were to reverse the ERCOT overcharges, huge bills incurred by retail power providers, distributors and others would remain.

According to Potomac, real-time market costs on the Texas grid totaled about $47 billion from Feb. 14-19 because of power outages during the crisis and the sky-high wholesale prices — compared with about $10 billion in real-time market costs for all of 2020.

ERCOT's initial aim in lifting the wholesale prices to the $9,000 cap was to keep generators that were able to operate during the storm producing power. By design, the deregulated Texas electricity market relies on financial incentives to prompt generators to deliver more power to the grid.

But the move might have had little impact in this case, aside from socking some ERCOT participants with huge bills, because nearly half the state's generation capacity had been knocked offline by the weather.

A Mexican restaurant in Houston announced that they're keeping their mask rule and limited seating capacities.

In return, some customers threatened to call ICE on the staff and raise questions about their green card status.

I'm still gonna wear my mask, Hell, I may continue to wear it for good.

I've been thinking the same thing. I haven't caught a cold or a sore throat since I started wearing a mask. The mask and working at home has the Flu and diseases passed through the air down to record lows. It would probably be wise to wear it a little while longer after most people stop.
