I've heard arguments, which is why I included it in the poll, that some Blacks this election intend to vote Republican to force the Democrats to stop taking the Black vote for granted.
Republicans would win and continue to erode our rights while increasing the influence of the church in our government. Dems would lose power that would be harder to get back. If they ever got power again it would be harder to undo the republican changes and, before they got started, folks would be threatening not to vote for them again because they aren't moving fast enough to enact their agenda and undo all the BS the GOP saddled us with. In other words, the same as it is now, only at a faster pace.

A counter argument I've heard to that is that the Republicans are eroding our rights because because we don't vote for them. We always vote Democrat so they have no reason to support us or protect our votes. Asians and hispanics tend to be closer to evenly split between parties whereas with Black it's 90% plus. Do they erode asian voting rights as much as they do Black voting rights?
If black people actually were willing to vote for both parties and become a (swing voter) black people would have massive amounts of political power.

The glue that is currently holding the GOP together is whiteness coupled with the fear and hatred of black people and other PoC. Aside from being anti abortion, and it could be argued that abortion is to preserve whiteness also, all their other culture wars and major issues are anti-black anti-what-isn't-white in some way. Everything is framed in denying black folks who are undeserving or stopping black folks who are stealing what belongs to white folks. Everything is framed that if black folks do better, it is at the expense of white folks. This has always been true, and used to get white folks to vote against their own interests, but before GOP leadership paid lip service to equality.
The GOP doesn't want a big tent coalition. The American people are not their priority, corporate donors are. Their tax cuts didn't help the majority of Americans, and they block every initiative the dems bring forward that would help us, but keeping Americans focused on all this white nationalism and culture wars keeps them in line so GOP leadership can serve who they truly wish to serve, themselves and the wealthy. The issue is that starting with the tea party, they now have true believers being elected to congress who aren't using dog whistles, they are using bull horns and riling up the public to do things like march on the capitol.
The GOP has had several opportunities to grow their party. They made a big show of their "autopsy" back in the Obama years. They know what they can do, but they don't do it because to change their current business model would alienate the base that votes for them. They aren't interested in growing their tent and earning votes, they are interested in suppressing the votes of people who wouldn't vote for them and we have folks around here trying to self suppress the black vote to help them out..
