Remember when that was a mainstay in music especially black music?

Barry White, Luther Vandross, Isaac Hayes (he wasn't a twig) Freddie Jackson, Solomon Burke, Fats Domino, BB King, Aaron Neville

the last hit making big man crooner I can think of is Ruben Studdard...thats it

how about blind?

Stevie Wonder Ray Charles Jose Feliciano the 5 blind boys from Alabama Ronnie Milsap Andrea Bocelli Art Tatum

.

this generation isn't producing enough obese singers and handicapped musical geniuses!!

There's lot of reasons, music has changed (not for the better IMO) listening and buying habits have changed, lastly music industry has changed and new artist struggle to get their music airtime. New artist today get little airtime and unless its old R&B music program its rap and everything else except jazz. You literally have to be a top liner to know your music will get airtime.

The days of just knowing the words to a song and singing it best you can are over. Today you need to also be an actor and dancer and singer. Its tough out there.

Those days of standing at a mike and just belting out a song like a Jerry Butler or a Nat King Cole have gone.

Because music isn't just about the music anymore it's about selling sex and youth not talent and artistry.

If your a fat crooner they'll make you lose weight so they can market you better as a sex symbol.

When people wanna fuck you they buy whatever you tell them to.

No blind singers because musicians today ain't learning piano they learning to rap and rhyme.

And Homos have replaced the blind

In general, we no longer have standards. Standards are oppressive and marginalizing. Oppression and marginalization are bad.

Two words:

"Music Videos"

They changed the visual standard for artists' physicality. Before videos, people were more locked into the music than what someone looked like. Sometime around 1984, the release of a song's video became as big of a deal as the release of the single itself.

Before the music video age began, relatively plain sistas like Patti Labelle (with the group Labelle), Jennifer Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack and Evelyn "Champagne" King were able to have monster hits. Same goes for blind people and fat folk.

Nowadays, for the most part, artists have to look like models. If Evelyn "Champagne" King came out today for the first time, she wouldn't make it based on her not fitting the current beauty standard for female superstar singers.

Yall ask some crazy ass questions. Why create music if mofos is just downloading it illegally?

:lol2: The they don't want us to learn music cause we are poor train. I know a former music teacher is providing musical instruments for kids from the city.

On that note im knocking that Jackie Wilson Reet Petite Original Recordings. Glad i paid for these speakers.

True and I would agree that the quality of popular music has gone down partially because of this.

That's a good point.

Visuals. Back then the radio was medium of choice to hear music. Back then you liked the song before seeing the artist. By the time you saw the artist he already had a following, and people just ran with the wave.

Now a days it's the opposite. You see them, before you hear them. And you can choose to listen or not. And like homie said people are going to listen to people that look like they get laid or that they wanna lay....

The last full figured artist of nite that I can recall is Adelle. She's talented and popular enough and she still gets fat shamed. Imagine the up and coming bigger artist. They get "artist developed" before you even see them.

Artists like Fred The Godson. Arguably a great wordsmith, but homie doesn't have the looks; so he gets overlooked. There are a lot of 5s and lower in those writing rooms though.

everyone of those guys you listed would be rich as hell if they came out today...
They wouldn't be stars though - they would be today's MikeWills, Max Martins, Metros, and Mustards

case in point:lol::smh::smh::smh::lol:
Adelle and Meghan Trainor both benefit from blue eye soul bias
any white person that does music almost as well as a black person gets a push

Fred's problem is he lacks charisma lacks charm... he is missing "it"
Its not his looks-
There have been a ton of ugly rappers and even more chubby ones
Fred has been grinding for about a decade now... when he came out he could have definitely gotten on

I agree with that and that is annoying.. eminem is a big beneficiary of that himself he even said so in a few songs.

Now that I think aboiut it, the last blind singer I can think of to hit it big is Andrea Bocelli, and though he has a big following in the US, he's more of an international star than anything.

Might be tied to the absence of focus with music and arts in schools.

Where else is a handicapped kid without many outlets going to have natural talent nurtured?

Andrea puts on an excellent show. I dropped $300 for tickets last month to see his concert. The venue was packed.
