She's not being unreasonable in asking for emotional availability from a partner. If he can't handle being emotionally available, he needs to go to therapy and not be involved in a relationship until he CAN handle it.

I spanked my son when he was two or three years old and it just seemed to make him angrier. All it taught him was someone could put their hands on you if they're bigger and more powerful. Instead I started taking his toys away and later video games and TV if he misbehaved. I only have to do that once or twice and he got the message. I never call him names and I don't put my hands on him and he respects me and does a great job helping out around the house. Honestly have no complaints with this kid at all he's the best
