None of these people supported Assad. Why would they after everything he's done?

Assad's only friends are foreign. Russia, Iran and Hezbollah. That's it!

The locals cheered on the rebels as they rolled in that's why it all happened so fast.

Yeah, this was a bloodless coup. And these type of Coups are easy to do when your own people despise you. In front of my memory the worst coups to do is that the nation love their president i.e. what happened with Hugo Chavez the United States put him in jail, and the people went to jail and broke him out.

The leader of HTS was born in Saudi to two Syrian parents and has Syrian citizenship. He's the guy who is a former Al-Queda but says he is reformed.
