Has anyone come across a brief, unbiased, straightforward explanation of how this conflict got to this point from when the jews started going back to isreal after ww2? I know they have history going back way further than that, but how did this happen in the modern world? All the narratives I've seen are obviously one-sided promoting one faction or the other.

Most of what you call Israel used to be Palestine. Palestine was not a state, but a region in the vast Ottoman Empire. After WWII, the Ottoman Empire failed & Britain (who took over) decided to make a homeland for the Jews, as no other country wanted to take them. The British planned to divide Palestine into two states (one for Palestine, one for Israel), but allowed the Jewish people to relocate wherever with no regard for the Palestinians who already lived in these areas. This lead to tension between the two & a number of squabbles.
Some of the Arab countries around Palestine/Israel took some of the land & Israel fought a war to get it back (with heavy backing from the US & Britain). Once they did, they started taking over more land from the Palestinians, with no repercussions. The offshoots of those Arab countries that lost became the Muslim Brotherhood, which then evolved in Palestine & the surrounding areas into political parties such as the PLO, Hamas & Hezbollah.
Eventually, over time, the Palestinians were forced onto two pieces of land, the West Bank & the Gaza Strip, where they were basically treated like garbage. Even now, the Palestinians live in a prison state, being constantly patrolled, attacked & brutalized for no reason & denied most of the basics of living.
A good analogy is how the US did the Indians & moved them to reservations.

Have to admit I didn't know the part about Palestine not being a nation state prior to the end of ww2. So, the jews just showed up declared it their new sovereign country, and started running them out because the jews were backed by the US and UK. How come when it comes to this conflict the international community seems to be so lopsidedly against the palestinians and sympathetic toward the jews? If the history is as you stated, it just seems so obtuse and hypocritical, but I guess its what cacs do best. Supposedly, the Jews "relocating" back to Israel was fulfilled prophecy from the Bible itself. As a result, the US leaned heavy on that part, enlisting televangelists to connect the Christian & Jewish faith in some sort of foretelling of the upcoming Rapture & ascension to Heaven, politicians to demand support & funding for the "disenfranchised victims of the Holocaust", Hollywood to relate the Jews plight via movies & shows that placed a white face in those situations & mass media to push this message of the lost tribe finally returning home & forced a privileged classification on those same Jews. In reality, Israel became a proxy state of sorts for the US, a democratic island in a sea of Islamic fundamentalists, oil & Russian aspirations of becoming the new Ottoman Empire via the USSR.
America is predominately a Christian country. And to the Christian American, they have been programmed to see Palestinians, as well as other Arab & darker tribes, to be Muslim heathens that worship a false god (Allah) & want the destruction of America & Christianity. You also have to add the actions taken by the other Arab & Muslim countries against America (which was 90% of the time instigated by America's interference) & the alliances that those Arab countries made (remember, this is all from the start of the Cold War)...all this only fueled those fires.
