ShopRite I went to this morning was more crowded than usual but no long ass lines... they were caught off guard and didn't have enough cashiers that early though

Thursday's COVID-19 developments include a state of emergency and new cases in Dane County

In less than 48 hours, the spread of the coronavirus in Wisconsin has gone from a distant threat to a stark reality as Gov. Tony Evers on Thursday declared a public health emergency, the state recorded its first cases of community spread, universities moved to empty campuses, and hospitals and emergency services kicked into high gear to deal with a likely outbreak.

In Wisconsin, confirmed cases now number eight, up from three on Tuesday, and officials are bracing for a dramatic escalation.

Six people who contracted the disease — two each in Dane and Fond du Lac counties, and one each in Pierce and Waukesha counties — were exposed while traveling. Five of those are or have been in voluntary isolation, while one is in hospital care, officials said.

Why the fuck all the schools aren't closed is beyond me. With all the information that we currently have available on Corona, it's a no-brainer to close schools. Should be fucking automatic. Kids are more likely to have mild cases or be asymptomatic. :smh:

Ohio's governor been on his fucking shit. Our last day of school is tomorrow for 3 weeks and situation will be assessed after. Crazy that Ohio is an example of how to get shit done while places with a lot more cases dragged their feet.

Who's going to take care of all these kids out from school :dunno:

That's a tough one. But it's some 'figure that shit out later' shit. Denmark even closed all the daycares which also needs to happen here.

Government can start easing the burden by doing what Italy has done and forcing mortgages and utilities into grace periods until this shit blows over. Either contain it or be greedy. Can't do both.

I haven't panicked, just sharing today's news conference. It didn't even occur to me to go grocery shopping until reading various threads today and now it's hit closer to home. Muhfuckas around us need not go into panic mode but we can't control how others are gonna react.

Shit's gonna be like Black Friday shopping and I don't participate in that shit. :smh::smh:

I didn't vote for him, but I can't complain about his handling of this matter.

Who's going to take care of them if they bring an infection home and kill off or incapacitate their care givers?

The parents are still working, because many people can't just work from home.

The people who are "killed" off are the people with low immune systems and the elderly.

How would these people pay for child care?

In a country where a lot of people live pay check to pay check.

A lot of families, especially black families, have multi-generational households under the same roof. Younger people aren't necessarily dying, though some have, but they are still not able to work if they get sick, they would have to self or be forced to quarantine. Just because you're young, doesn't mean you don't already have underlying medical conditions that increase your risk. Heart disease, cancer, and diabetes run rampant and not everyone has an immune system that is on point. I'm not saying it's not a problem, but having all those kids in school will cause it to spread and the system to collapse that much faster.
