Nope. The price is on par with the few NVMe drives available right now that can run at the necessary speeds on both consoles.

Maybe a year or two from now you'll be able to find them both for $100 or less but right now, it cost money to be on the cutting edge.
Which system are you going with?

Won't fit in the PS5 because of the heatsink, and isn't fast enough.

There's a ton of people who are going to be disappointed once they figure out compatible drives aren't cheap.

Yeah I know I was comparing the price. IMO Microsoft should’ve went under corsairs 1TB price.

Neither. PCMR. I got a PS4 Pro two years ago and rarely turn it on. I don't game much, but when I do I prefer PC.

Why? There's no reason to undercut, especially when the competition is going to be just as expensive. Microsoft didn't go proprietary because they wanted to lock people in, they did it because they remember when they allowed SD Cards to be used as adaptable storage, on Windows Phone and the headache they got from people complaining how that didn't work right because most people didn't do any research and purchased the cheapest card they can find.

Watch, early next year, when people start trying to upgrade memory on their systems, before Sony gets out an approved list you will see people complaining that the $89 sata m.2 card they purchased off Amazon isn't working, and won't put it together why. And then they'll complain more when the whitelist comes out and the drives are $250+. Cerny made it clear that only the best of the best drives will be compatible, but most people have forgotten that by now.

Decided to put this here to illustrate to people why Microsoft is in an entirely different league from SONY

Newzoo_Games_Market_Revenues_2020.png

The 45.2B Billion Console Market is made up of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo

But the PC/Window market is dominated by Microsoft

Microsoft also has a huge piece of the Mobile, Tablet and Smart Phone market especially now with gamepass on Android devices

---Just wait until they hit Iphones

With gamepass Microsoft will be able to have their toes in every piece of the gaming market.... we are talking about Tens of Millions of Potential Subscribers.

This is why they have been pushing gamepass and working on xcloud for so long...... we are talking about tens of billions .....

This is why they don't give a shit about console sells .... Look how much console sells make up in the large scale gaming market.

Sony can't compete this type of reach.

When you're selling a system to casual's for $299 with 512 GB the last thing you want them to see is a storage option priced at $219

Now Microsoft have to educate the casual audience about NVMe drives vs the external USB 3.0 drives over and over gain. And the gaming media wont help them. Things could get ugly when those users start downloading COD NBA2k Madden and FIFA.

And currently Seagate is the only option for expandable storage. No competition means that price will stay high for a long time. Those old 360 cards didnt drop in price for a long time either.

Microsoft is gonna buy WB games as soon as its available again lol.

Fanboys still think Microsoft is worried about Sony. These guys are the real threat.

Microsoft also got rid of Mixer and joined up with Facebook for a reason..

Sony's going to have the same problem. USB 3 for storage or playing older games, SSD for playing current. And there will be 3rd party cards, Seagate has an exclusive window at launch.

The people going for the $299 are likely the type of people, who are casual gamers. as long as it holds what they are currently playing, they are good.

I think PS5 has a similar problem but it's for the $499 unit....

You are only going to have 852gbs of SSD space on the PS5 so you will still need to get an external soon

This Could Be the First PS5 Compatible SSD

Samsung has announced its new uber-fast SSD hard drive, and it could be the first that Sony whitelists for use in the PlayStation 5. As expected, it’s not cheap: 250GB will cost you $89.99, 500GB will retail for $149.99, and 1TB will set you back $229.99. Compared to the $219.99 cost of the Xbox Series X’s expandable storage, this is agreeable considering it's significantly faster. Furthermore, the hope is that because it’s not a proprietary format, the costs will come down quicker.
The specifications, with read and write speeds of 7,000MB/s and 5,000MB/s, do roughly match the PS5, although the Japanese giant has said it’ll publish a whitelist of supported drives in the near future, so we wouldn’t recommend podding out for this until the manufacturer confirms its compatibility. In the meantime, you can learn more through the following link: Which SSD Drives Will Be Compatible with PS5?

I fucking knew this was about to happen.....

Amazon is the big threat.... They are the only company next to google that has the infrastructure to pull off streaming but they don't have any real first party titles

Also .... because firetvs and sticks are android based ... A smart person can still install xcloud on a Firetv. But this is interesting ....

So I just checked out the Amazon Luna service and signed up for early access ....

This is a threat but I still think that as long as we have Data Caps this is a complementary option ...

Also it's a WRAP for Stadia ... like how is it supposed to compete with Xcloud and Luna ... You pay a flat monthly fee and play what the fuck you want and not pay a monthly fee just to buy a game that you likely already own.
