Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G. – Legacy [Official Music Video]
Thoughts!?!
Dope or Wack?
In an odd way, Big gave a lot of dudes self-confidence, he didn't apologize for not being Al B. Sure look-wise & that line "Fat, Black And Ugly As Ever" that was self-love talking & people felt that deeply. I was like "oh shit, he said that" but now I can see what he was doing, he was flippin' shit & embracing himself speaking to a society that didn't embrace Blackness & Black features. He was sayin' "do what u want playa" & excel, and even push up on women like Faith Evans 'cause the world is yours.
Here's what one brotha said in the issue of Vibe Magazine Sept 1997 the same year Big was murdered:

Even Gabourey Sidibe was inspired:

Heavy D was light skinned, though, plus Heavy never called himself "ugly." Misogynistic? Are you a male feminist? Do you look at everything through the eyes of a feminist? You're missing the point, his confidence was intact despite how society viewed him, & so you saying that him being "dissed by women" was the cause of something doesn't make sense; I'm saying something completely different. In sum, let me reiterate: you missed the point. My point was that line "Fat, Black And Ugly As Ever" was a clarion call for Black Folks who had been dissed because of appearance to embrace that shit; take that what society gives you and flip it to your advantage & Biggie embodied that ethos; now Gabourey Sidibe is doing that same thing.Heavy D did that before and better. Biggie's lyrics were misogynistic as hell, probably because he got dissed by women because of his looks.
Heavy D was light skinned, though, plus Heavy never called himself "ugly." Misogynistic? Are you a male feminist? Do you look at everything through the eyes of a feminist? You're missing the point, his confidence was intact despite how society viewed him, & even you are dissing Biggie because of his looks right now. In sum, let me reiterate: you missed the point. Was Heavy D, dark skinned ..yes or no? No. Was Big Daddy Kane fat, yes or no? No. Did Heavy D & Big Daddy Kane call themselves ugly, yes or no? No. Again, you are missing the point. In Hip Hop, of course, you floss that's the nature of Hip Hop and you talk how you dress or how you aspire to dress, that's just one of the subjects of Hip Hop. & oh, have you ever heard of the song, "My Adidas"? Huh? Rappers always talk about how they dress. As far as Eurocentric desires, what are you talking about? Wanting nice clothes is a Eurocentric desire? What is a Eurocentric desire? Name some Eurocentric desires. VAiz, you are reaching with Lil Kim, Biggie did not make her change herself, all of her changes were done after his death. VAiz, his first baby momma was dark skinned, and let me add: light skinned women are still Black women too, if you didn't know that.As far as being a fat guy with style, game, and confidence, Heavy did it before Biggie. And better. As did Big Daddy Kane, who embraced his dark skin ("I'm browner than Bobby so won't you be my tendering"). Biggie had to mask his insecurities by rhyming about designer clothes, jewelry, and cars. "Black and ugly as ever/however, I stay Coogi down to the socks/rings and watch filled with rocks...". What you consider to be a "clarion call for black folks" I consider to be a siren call for black folks to measure our self-worth according to materialistic and Eurocentric desires. Look at how it fucked up Lil Kim. Not to mention, Biggie was known for his love of light-skinned biracial women like Faith and Charli Baltimore.

Heavy was fat. It was part of his stage name and he called himself the Overweight Lover! Kane was dark-skinned and embraced it. Made it positive part of his persona. Biggie, however, correlated "black" and "ugly." He never embraced his weight or his complexion; he treated them as negatives that he had to compensate for with money, jewelry, and designer clothes. Even Jeru and BCC used to dis him for this shit back in the 90s. Listen to the "One More Chance (remix)." It's basically a sugar-daddy rap! And, ironically, "Big Poppa" was the same thing, with a more appropriate title.
And Kim said Biggie, along with physically abusing her, constantly dissed her for light-skinned women, which was part of the reason she had a color complex. I'll find the interview if you want to read it. Her changes occurred after his death because she didn't drop an album until the year before. While I don't solely blame him as I think her issues run far deeper, the skin-bleaching, blonde hair, and high-fashion worship all goes hand-in-hand with the Eurocentric mentality running through Biggie, Kim and the rest of Bad Boy at that time. Do I need to post a pic of Puffy's mother?
[The Notorious B.I.G.:]
First things first, I poppa! - Freaks all the honies! (uh-huh!)
Dummies! (uh!) - Playboy bunnies, those wantin' money.
Those the ones I like cause they don't get Nathan
But penetration, unless it smells like sanitation.
Garbage, I turn like doorknobs,
Heart throb? Never! - Black and ugly as ever!
However - I stay Coogi down to the socks
Rings and watch filled with rocks! (uh!)
And my jam knock in your Mitsubishi
Girls pee pee when they see me (uh-huh!) navajos creep me in they tee pee! (uh!)
As I lay down laws like Alan Coppet
Stop it! (uh!) - If you think they gonna make a prophet!
Don't see my ones, don't see my guns! - Get it?
Now tell ya friends Poppa hit it (uh!) then split it!
In two as I flow with the Junior M.A.F.I.A. (uh!)
I don't know what the hell's stoppin' ya!
I'm clockin ya, Versace shades watchin' ya! (uh-huh!)
Once ya grin, I'm in, game begin! (uh!)
First I talk about how I dresses this,
In diamond necklasses, stretch Lexuses! (whooo!)
The sex is just immaculate from the back I get
Deeper and deeper! - Help ya reach the (uh-huh!)
Climax that your man can't make
Call him, tell him you'll be home real late, and sing the break! (uh!)
[Chorus 1: Faith Evans (The Notorious B.I.G.) & ("Puff Daddy")]
Baabyyyyyy, heeeeere I am (I got that good love girl, you didn't know?)
Aaaaall, I neeeeed is ooooone more chaaaaaance! One more chance...
IIIII can heeelp (uh!) you fiiiiiind, yourseeeeelf! (I got that good love girl, you didn't know?)
Cause you, don't neeeeeed (uh!) noboooo-dy eeeeelse! - One more chaaaance... ("Remix! ")
[The Notorious B.I.G. ("Puff Daddy"):]
She's sick of that song on how it's so long
Thought he worked his until I handled my biz,
There I is! (uh!) - Major Payne like Damon Wayans (uh-huh!)
Low Down Dirty even like his brother Keenan.
Schemin'! (uh!) - Don't leave ya girl round me
True player for real, ask Puff Dad-dy! ("yeeeah! ")
You ringin' bells with bags from Chanel
Baby Benz, traded in your Hyundai Excel. (uh!)
Fully equipped, CD changer with the cell (uh-huh!)
She beeped me, meet me at twelve! (uh!)
Where you at? Flippin' jobs, payin car notes? ("yeeeah! ")
While I'm swimmin' in ya women like the breast stroke! ("uh-huh! ")
Right stroke, left stroke was the best stroke
Death stroke - tongue all down her throat! (uh-huh!)
Nuttin left to do but send her home to you,
I'm through! - Can ya sing the song for me, boo?
[Chorus 2: Faith Evans (The Notorious B.I.G.)]
One more chaaaaaaance! - Biggie give me one more chaaaance!
(I got that good love girl, you didn't know?)
One more chaaaaaaance! - Biggie give me one more chaaaance!
(I got that good love girl, you didn't know?)
[The Notorious B.I.G. ("Puff Daddy"):]
So, what's it gonna be? - Him or me? (uh!)
We can cruise the world with pearls, gator boots for girls. (uh-huh!)
The envy of all women - crushed linen!
Cartier wrist-wear with diamonds in 'em. (whoooo!)
The finest women I love with a passion
Ya man's a wimp, I give that ass a good thrashin'!
High fashion - flyin' into all states (uh!)
Sexin me while ya man [masturbates]! ("uhh, uhh! ")
Isn't this great? Your flight leaves at eight
Her flight lands at nine, my game just rewinds. (uh!)
Lyrically I'm supposed to represent (what?)
I'm not only the client, I'm the player president! (uh!)
[Chorus 2: x1/2]
[Chorus 1]
[Outro: Diddy (The Notorious B.I.G.)]
Bad Boy, Bad Boy!
(I got that good love girl, you didn't know?)
EastCoast, EastCoast...
WestCoast, WestCoast...
She broke so yea 20yrs later.....shit she had Stevie j publicly grabbing that flat ass2o years later....ummm.
Biggie = overrated rapper and lyricist. All he really did was bring NYC back commercially.
Faith = underrated singer and vocalist. Too bad Mary J came first and took her shine.

What have you done with your life?Biggie = overrated rapper and lyricist. All he really did was bring NYC back commercially.

Exactly! & I think he thumbed his nose at other people's perceptions of him & said "I'm gonna make it anyway no matter what you think of me."I always thought there was a powerful lesson in Biggie's story. I took it as "People won't be successful until they accept who they are and gain confidence as a result".
VAiz4H, why are repeating things that are common knowledge, I know Heavy D was the Heavy Weight Lover & I know Big Daddy Kane embraced his complexion. You sound like this is new info for you. Again, you are missing the point. Biggie said "Fat, Black And Ugly As Ever," so basically he was saying no matter what society thinks of me I'm still fly, worthy, & will succeed. VAiz4, You are taking everything very literal and not taking into account Biggie's nuance; you listening to Biggie like he was spittin' nursery rhymes. & VAiz4, why are you posting all of his lyrics, did you read what I had just written, in Hip Hop there is a culture of flossing in every way and that includes the ways of fashion (see Dapper Dans), you pointing out fashion lyrics is like someone pointing out stethoscopes in a doctor's office: you know they are going to be like there. Like I said, see "My Adidas." Hey I asked you this and you never answered "As far as Eurocentric desires, what are you talking about? Wanting nice clothes is a Eurocentric desire? What is a Eurocentric desire? Name some Eurocentric desires." Huh? I'm still waiting. Another thing, he embraced everything about himself or he could have never written that line I highlighted, he embraced his weight, skin color, his looks, ..everything; you are just on your revisionist history movement, I see you. You are even saying Lil Kim is light skinned now because of Biggie, C'MON SON!!...lol. Where are you getting your ideas from? Next Up: Sammy Sosa is light skinned because he listened to Biggie....lol. You're too much....lol. Finally, you said "do I need to post a pic of Puffy's mother?" ..What are you talking about? You are all over the place, get it together.

Wasn't a huge Big fan. Saw the talent, I agree he was a bit overrated. But the whole gave fat, dark, busted dudes confidence with 1 line was a bit of a stretch. In fact I don't think that's what most people took from that line. You can be all that, but if you have material shit, and a hit record bumping in the avg whip you too can bag nice looking women.
Thank you! Succintly said!Damn VA I thought you were different..You on that male feminist shit ? Smh
What have you done with your life?
A male feminist on a porn board...the internet has won today...enjoy your Saturday
VAiz4, you are all over the place: Why Are You Posting Pics of Puffy's Mother? What does that have to do with anything? That has nothing to do with Biggie, you're reaching more than the toothbrush. He said "Black and ugly as ever/HOWEVER, I stay Coogi down to the socks/rings and watch filled with rocks...". In other words, he regarded his complexion and looks as negatives, but used material goods as a form of compensation for those perceived negatives. Self-confidence comes from within! He wasn't highlighting other personal qualities or characteristics he may have. Not even his lyrical prowess. Strictly money and designer clothes, cars, and jewelry. Biggie was a glorified trick!
And this is Eurocentrism. Either you see it or you don't. But I ultimately don't blame Biggie or Diddy or Kim or even Puff's mom.

It's a logical fallacy for someone asking you what makes you such an expert to openly criticize arguably the greatest rapper of all time? You do realize that just because they are your personal opinions doesn't make them facts right? He said "Black and ugly as ever/HOWEVER, I stay Coogi down to the socks/rings and watch filled with rocks...". VA did you forget to sign back in? WtfI'm not a feminist, and yes Biggie's lyrics were misogynistic. I don't need to be a feminist to recognize misogyny when I hear it. But, I know people who grew up on hip hop tend to be very protective of it, even when criticism is warranted.
At the same time, it wasn't just Biggie; misogyny is a staple in hip hop music, and we accept it.
Whether we want to admit it or not - and I do it, too - referring to women in general as hoes and bitches is not normal, but it is such a part of the culture that we think nothing of it and WILL defend it. No different than using the word 'nigga' which we also defend.
The same way some of us older heads shake our heads at these young boys wearing tight ass jeans, a lot of people shake their hands at shit we did and do. But, just like these young boys, we ain't trying to hear it, because its who we are and what we do.

As for the other things you said, I've already countered them:
