Its hard to believe that its been 30 years already.
The biggest upset in boxing history and arguably ALL sports history.
I still remember where I was when it happened.
I was just a kid at my grandmothers house watching it by myself.
Seeing Mike lose was almost like watching a family member get their ass beat.
It was one of the saddest sporting events I've ever witnessed in my lifetime. :smh:

Left work to go to a party with the white folks. Around eleven-ish, cats starting coming in talking about Mike got KTFO'd. Walked down to the corner to call home (yes youngsters, phones used to be on corners). My dad was out of town for the weekend for National Guard training, so my mom picked up. Before I could get in a word, she said, "It's true. I recorded it (VCR)." Boxing is like the only sport that everyone watched in the house. I later got home, watched it and couldn't believe what I saw. This shocked the world because Tyson was thought to be invincible. I'll never forget that day.

It was on hbo.. Was watching it with my moms( yeah she actually like watching Tyson destroy people).. When he went down my mom's was like " ohhhhh nooo".. Come on get up... It was like watching national geographic.. You watched to see lions fuck s hit up... But on this episode the antlers of a deer went through the lions neck and he died.. I didn't watch this show for this... That's how that match felt.. Heavyweight division never the same again...no more lion destroying its prey... Thanks buster Douglas for ruining my savage predator watching

I was at Nakisaki restaurant in Rosedale, Queens and one of the owners came in right after and said Tyson got knocked out. The whole spot was like GTFOH. Then his boy came in with the vhs and played in on the big screen. The entire spot was like :eek2::eek2::eek2:. Will never forget that night.

The thing that always trips me out about that fight is that Tyson's camp was so sure that the fight wouldn't last that that they didn't even bring their full equipment, such as an endswell and had to fill up a rubber glove with water to deal with the swelling.

I was a little kid when this happened and as a huge Tyson fan (which I still am) I was devastated watching Mike get KO'd between those squiggly PPV lines (we couldn't afford to pay for that shit lol.)

I was in the 4th grade. Heard about it the next morning walking to school. Had to wait another week to see the replay for free.

It wasn't on pay per view.. I was 9 yrs old and was watching it on my tv.. I only had cable with HBO and showtime.. He didn't start having pay per view fights until after he was released from prison... That's when boxing got greedy with that pay per view shit

Well we also didn't have cable a lot of the time:o

I was in the Army station at Ft. Belvoir Va. My brother was TDY and came by to watch the fight with me. Some of the most fun we have had ever watching this great fight. I was pulling for Buster Douglass, but didn't think he had a chance.
HNIC:unconscious:

Greatest KO in history. No greater underdog than Buster.
Most Historic KO maybe.

I was watching the Marvin Hagler Thomas Hearns fight Closed- Circuit at a DC arena and the place was going wild from the 1st round until Hagler knocked out Hearns in the 3rd round, that shit was intense.
HNIC:pain:

Unless you had money on him, why the hell were you pulling for Douglas? :dunno:
Man I'm probably just lying. I had never heard of Buster Douglass in my Life. Once Buster stated getting in that ass it was just unbelievable o_O and I was probably just pulling for the upset. It was arguably the most shocking upset ever.

A lot of old heads say the Liston - Clay fight was a Major upset, but Cassius Clay was a Gold Medal winner, so it can't compare to the Tyson Douglass fight.

HNIC

was watching live on HBO.

I just sat there stunned...literally could not believe what I had witnessed. It's hard to explain to someone who wasn't around during that era, just how unthinkable it was that Mike could be beaten, let alone knocked out.

Yeah it wasn't on PPV, but I remember watching plenty of fights looking at the scrambled screen with audio only.
Those were the days man.
They got it so easy now.

No doubt.

I watched everything with that squiggly line and even when we were able to steal cable we still only had 13 channels

Question, anybody would've been interested in a rematch with an in shape Tyson and that version of Douglass? Cuz yeah Mike was bullshitting but Buster was throwing a serious jab and I'll combos. Wish it would've happened. Oh and I was laying in my bed when it interrupted the news to say Mike lost. I was hurt.

Douglas would've got knocked out. Hell, douglas was outta shape in his next fight vs Holyfield and got destroyed. Buster just had Mike's number for that one night in Japan.

I meant the Douglass that beat Tyson. I couldve beat the one Holyfield knocked out
Buster came in fat and $25M richer when he fought Holyfield.
He didn't give a fuck because he reached the pinnacle as far as he was concerned.
After beating Mike, he probably believed there was nothing else to fight for.

Don't believe the hype Tyson was in shape. Let's look at the facts, Tyson came in at 221 one pound over his previous fight a first round stoppage of Carl The Truth, the fight was fought at a decent pace but Tyson showed no signs of fatigue and was still strong enough to knock Douglas down in the second half of the fight. Douglas had his foot in Tyson's ass from the first round on, lack of conditioning doesn't show up in the first round. Imagine Mayweather half ass training for the Gatti fight how would that fight look? For the first four or five rounds it would look exactly the same as the actual fight looked, now if Gatti could make it to the second half of the fight then the lack of conditioning from Mayweather would start to show.

Tyson and Bobby Brown partied and ran trains on Japanese prostitutes until 3am on the morning of the fight.

I had a female friend who was from Columbus Ohio (busters home town) and she said from the time Buster Knocked out Tyson until Holyfield knocked his ass out, Buster was partying ♫ Like it was 1999 ♫ (in your best Prince Voice) :)
