Security threat near Capitol building causes evacuation of area



Police evacuated parts of DC near the Capitol building on Thursday after reports broke of a man in a "suspicious" vehicle posing a security threat, AP, AFP and US Capitol Police report. According to the AP, the yet-to-be-unidentified man was seen in a pickup truck outside the Library of Congress and told police he "had a bomb." The Library, some congressional office buildings and the US Supreme Court were among the places evacuated — although members of Congress are currently on recess and not present in their offices.

Why the library of Congress though?

Only way that makes sense is if he's trying to destroy copyright information or planned his attack so horribly he got the wrong building.

Given that he made the statement: "There's a capital over there and there's another capital over there" I'm gonna guess he picked the first white marble building that he could get close to.

You're probably right, but I could see an incentive for attacking the library of Congress though.

You can create a copyright by sending your work back to yourself through registered mail, but you can't sue for damages unless it's also registered with the library of congress.

Best I can tell there's no precedent for what happens if those records get destroyed.

It wouldn't surprise me if a film or movie publisher enlisted some help from the far right after getting threatened with a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
