You know what I was l quite pissed off at Chuck for what he did in the Senate but I just thought of something. Maybe he had to do it because Trump may try to pull the martial law bullshit if there’s a government shut down.
Here's my problem with that logic. If that is Trump's intent, he's going to do it whether he has a good reason or not.

Trump has been doing crazy, unhinged shit for two months now. Does anybody think that he needs a real reason to pull that specific card?

Hell, the way things are going, with ICE dragging randos off the street and cops about half a vote away from full immunity, Trump may not need to declare martial law. He'll have all of the moving thugs he needs to maintain what he wants.

We (meaning the general public, but also legislators) have to stop thinking in terms of holding out until the next election a few years down the road. Because if they keep giving away power to the president, there won't be anything resembling a proper election a few years down the road. People keep imagining some line being drawn at some point, but no one's even holding a marker at this point.

Absolutely. Obama’s presidency was a turning point not just because he was the first Black president but because his election shattered the illusion that America was still a "white man's country." The backlash was swift. The Tea Party movement wasn't just about "fiscal responsibility"; it was a thinly veiled reaction to a Black man holding the highest office in the land.

That resentment festered for years, and Trump capitalized on it. He didn’t create the racism, but he gave it a loudspeaker. MAGA was never about making America "great." it was about restoring a version of America where white dominance was unquestioned.

It’s wild to think how each step the Tea Party, MAGA, and Trump were all part of the same backlash.
