I used to do Psych Evals and Medication management over at SQSP when I was a 3rd year Psychiatry Resident. I have worked in various Prisons in the California Department of Corrections. San Quentin is actually a lower level prison. With a Death Row and Reception Center. It actually houses level 1 and 2 inmates ONLY along with Death Row. There is no SHU Level 3 or Level 4 unit at San Quentin. The most fucked up horrible prisons in the state have to be. Pelican Bay, Corcoran 1, California Correctional Institution, Salinas Valley and High Desert

I'm very happy we have prisons.
Some people just don't belong with society. Others don't want to be.
I almost wish we could set-up an isolated penal colony in Anchorage or some shit. Put the worst of the worst on an iceberg, build shelters and provide heating from offshore, drop supplies and shit in once a week, take out the sick, old, and the dead.
Let them live in their own society order, self police themseleves and live by their own rules since they can't mingle with the rest of the world.

prisons are counter productive. although they isolate the criminals from society, they offer no type of structured rehabilitation program. in essence, a prison is nothing more than a legal form of slavery. and since 85% of people who get locked up will be released one day, the recidivism rate tends to be high.

Folsom and Pelican Bay 2 of the worst prisons in America.
