KICK-ASS - My Review

Just got back from seeing an advanced screening at Atlantic Station and I gotta say this movie is good as hell.

What if Peter Parker lived in a real world and decided to become a Superhero (with no powers) and winds up hooking up with Batman (Adam West/Christian Bale) and Robin (Not Dick, Jason or Tim but DAMIAN), then you got Kick-Ass.

For those who want to know, First off, It's not 100% faithful to the Comic. Maybe 75% BUT it's still a Good Flick.

What did they change? Well, If i told you then it would be me intentionally spoiling it. If you read the comic and have questions then ask and I will answer with a simple yes or no.

OVERALL I give this movie a B.

If you want to read the comics

i can already tell you Big Daddy lives. but the girl is a little TOO raw for me.

ah well, i'll catch the matinee.

1-Did he get the girl at the end?

2-Did Red Mist turn on him?

3-Did Big Daddy die?

4-Did Kick-Ass have to pretend that he was gay to get close to the girl?

5-Did Kick-Ass get put into the hospital in the beginning?

6-Did Kick-Ass catch his dad fucking the black chick?

Didn't wanna ask any spoiler questions

yeah, i always had trouble accepting women let alone GIRLS whoopin' 200lb men in movies.

i remember when i was a kid in kung fu class and the sifu matched meup to spar with this kid who was smaller than me. dude threw a kick, i blocked it, he fell down. i was too heavy for him to really spar with.

so when i see women doing strength and/or wrestling moves on big ass men i give it the :hmm: face.

So you dont believe these 90lb bitches could hold 50lb swords and fight in battles or fire 2 guns at a time?

okay, if the chick has super powers or is a robot or some shit i'm cool with it.

i dont have a problem with women using guns cause i know women can shoot just a well as men...in some cases better.

but fighting toe to toe?

This shit was off da hook. If I were still doing the Mo Reviews, I'd give this bitch a full recommendation. Hit-girl is the best thing about this flick. I was a little worried about the dialogue when I saw the red band trailer - not becuase it would be too harsh but hearing her use the word "cunt" just didn't seem like it worked. That was the only awkward line in the movie. She blew this mutha fucka up! Her future should be pretty solid after this. Nicolas Cage gets on my nerves. He did in this, too. The story is really well done. You root for the heroes and you know the villians have it coming. Its got good pacing and everybody pulls their weight for the most part. McLovin was caught slippin' a couple of times but his performace wasn't the worst. I thought the friends were underused and it could have actually stood to be a little longer than it was. The shit was good. I'm going back this weekend.

Sidenote to THEMAN: Yep.

As expected. A Rocky Review will be posted next week upon release for my opinion on it. I'm a fan of the comic books.

:eek::eek: damn

but I feel what you are saying.

Seeing super-strong women in movies is exciting but not at all realistic just due to the laws of physics.

YOUR TRAINED DRAGON JUST GOT IT'S ASS KICKED!!!
Kick-Ass Takes First Place at Domestic Box Office
Source: Lionsgate
April 19, 2010

Lionsgate's Kick-Ass got first place at the domestic box office this weekend with $19,828,687, edging out DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon, which came in at #2 with $19,633,320. Here's Lionsgate's press release on the close results:

LIONSGATE® emerged from a neck-and-neck box office race to claim the #1 spot with its action/comedy KICK-ASS. Director Matthew Vaughn's critically lauded, R-rated film took in $19,828,687 for the weekend, edging past the 3D animated family feature HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. The latest release in Lionsgate's Tyler Perry franchise, TYLER PERRY'S WHY DID I GET MARRIED, TOO?, reached $54.8 million in its third week in release. Lionsgate secured over 6,500 screens this past weekend, representing 16% of the North American marketplace.

Based on the groundbreaking, best-selling comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., KICK-ASS stars Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong and Chloe Grace Moretz, and features Nicolas Cage. The screenplay is written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman. The producers are Matthew Vaughn, Brad Pitt, Tarquin Pack and Kris Thykier; Millar and Romita Jr. are co-producers. Lionsgate acquired North American distribution rights for $15 million last year.

Said Joe Drake, Lionsgate Co-Chief Operating Officer and Motion Picture Group President, "KICK-ASS is fantastic, highly original entertainment, and our marketing and distribution teams have brilliantly positioned it for a long and successful run. That kind of run is precisely what we are seeing on the international front, where KICK-ASS has demonstrated a very strong hold at the box office; in Great Britain alone, it's taken in nearly $13.8 million in 17 days."
