Hollywood loves giving awards to movies that are about movies or have something to do with movies and they love shit that are genre pieces of yesteryear be it a musical(Chicago, La La Land) or a silent movie(The Artist). And in the case of The Artist it doesn't even matter if the film is as ordinary as they come they'll still give it awards.

Very Interesting that 3 black directors, 1 Bi-racial and the "Italian" one was born in Africa.

I saw OJ , 13, and I am not your negro. I am not your negro was really good. makes you want to read everything Baldwin ever wrote. he was a brilliant soldier .

I've seen most of that list

Arrival does not belong on that list

Hell or High Water was dope to me

It's hard for me to put it over Hidden Fences though

That was Denzel's best role IMO and he also deserved it for directing

Denzel was incredible in that movie. Best role he's played in years.

While I wanted Taraji to get a Best Actress nomination, it's probably better that she didn't because CACs are already complaining about the list being "too dark" and Taraji would have just been the backlash scapegoat for those still claiming that Amy Adams was robbed. Ditto for Denzel not being the one who "stole" the Best Director nomination that "rightfully" belonged to Martin Scorcese.
So you're scared of cacs?

Why wasn't Viola Davis nominated for best actress?

Casey Affleck's role didn't impress me, dude was a depressed washed muthafucka

Hacksaw Ridge was ok. Hollywood likes true life movies, but the war scenes were better than the actual movie. If they casted his wife closer to how she actually looked it would have been perceived differently.

Save and bump these predictions:
In the supporting categories, Viola Davis is an absolute lock to win, as is Mahershala Ali from Moonlight. Moonlight and Fences will fight it out for Best Adapted Screenplay. La La Land will pretty much sweep every other category it's nominated in.

American Hustle was nominated for all of those awards and got NADA. That was a super overhyped movie

I'm waiting for someone else to comment and give their thoughts. About 40mins is all I could stand of La La Land before I just couldn't anymore.

So why are they all over La La for; I havent seen it either...
My friend and I watched all of the best picture nominated movies. They all brought something amazing, and it's hard to pick the best. Moonlight hit me in my soul because of the crackhead mom and Fences with the drunk dad monologue. I saw these people in my neighborhood growing up.

If I'm picking just based on story...Manchester by The Sea had the best plot.

Of all the major films nominated..ive seen: fences, moonlight, manchester by the sea, lala land, hell or high water, hidden figures...

All of them were good to great imo..Hell or high water, hidden figures, and fences are my favorites..

Based on all the flicks ive seen...i would say denzel deserves best actor and fences or moonlight will win best picture

Havent seen hacksaw ridge yet..but i could see that winning based on everything ive heard/read about it

Best actress is a tough category...emma stone did a good job, meryl streep is meryl streep..and i heard issabelle hupert did her thing in Elle (still have to see that)

Viola davis should get best supporting actress

Lala land and moonlight could win for best film editing...they were beautifully shot

Arrival isn't best picture quality. A good movie with a good concept, but I wouldn't put it in a best movie of the year conversation.
