Not sure what to make of this in 2023

Harbaugh has overshadowed it.

Playing football in college isn't a right and the coaches can kick you off the team.

Coach said "It's about hiding behind (blank) and not showing up for work."

So if this is work, these kids need to be paid.

This is not a job, however, I do agree the kid needs to keep some kind of communication open with the coaching staff.....
"I don't feel comfortable speaking to coach at this time, I gave my therapist authority to discuss things as generally as possible....."

"I have been in contact with the coaching staff, school administration about my situation and unfortunately I'm not able to discuss it in detail with you (coach.)"

You gotta do something. Especially if you are on scholarship, cuz if you're kicked off the team, bye bye to free schooling.

Athletic scholarships are nothing but one year contracts.

Also apparently(I have to check the timeline) before he got injured, his momma contacted them he struggles with depression.

But they're getting NIL money now. Not sure how Mississippi does it, but some schools do it as a collective where they get a piece of the pie. Especially with the SEC schools.

Also it's one sided, and a piece of a recorded conversation.

This is football, you can get kicked off the team and he can transfer to another. How much responsibility do coaches have? You can just leave for two weeks and ignore the coaches and claim mental health? How does that look to the rest of the team.

The issue is the Mississippi coaches promote themselves as mental health advocates.

I have no dog in this fight. Both sides have points and they are wrong to an extent as well....

His mom contacting them before he got injured (lets say early/mid September) is not the same as his mom/therapist/representative contacting them in mid/late October when they are expecting him to return in November. (Again a very hypothetical timeline)....

So now we're here it's the 2nd week of November. The coach/staff has been reaching out and he's "not showing up for weeks" (coaches words)... that is a problem.

The coach was at his breaking point......

But to be fair to the kid, he's still a damn kid. He's not getting $X millions that the coach is, he's dealing with whatever it is he is dealing with and as kids, they don't always go about things the best ways....

Eeehh.... I'll stop caring about this situation as soon as I click on another thread

These are points I raised.....

Dude / his people needed to communicate better, so as to keep coach/staff/school someone informed of things.....

Cuz like you said, who wants a team where 10 of your stars are out for weeks claiming mental health?

But also as you stated, how accommodating do you expect them to be when all you say to them is "I'm not ready to talk," and blow off meetings?

Not sure how many weeks the coach/staff have been trying to reach him, but if it was 3 weeks... 3 games.....aye man that's huge, that's 1/4 of the season. That's playoff seedings, merch sales....etc.

It's a lot of wrong, and now the fact kid and his family are trying to get paid from this rubs me the wrong way.
