How long is each of these courses?

Also what is a good starting point/class you can take if you're looking to get into this field but have no experience?

I got an email from them with some of their tech courses for $10 until Jan 11th. The email doesn't say what the code is though.

The Ryan Kroonenburg classes I used to study for my AWS certs are on sale and they're worth it at those prices.

These courses run you through several projects.

The key is practice.

By the end of the course you will be "in the field"

As you begin to get ideas, you will have the technical ability to do them.

No more "do you know a developer" questions.

Anyone interested in studying together?

Seeing that we have several people signing up to do the same.

Studying could consist of a weekly check-in thread to hold everyone accountable by checking in your progress, asking questions, giving help etc...

This way people who want to be anon are comfortable.

Thoughts?

I don't understand the coding field neither, fuck truth be told...I'm kinda clueless to what the fuck coding is(probably know more than I think) but I'm down for learning new shit.

Was just going over this:

Video: Making the jump from YouTube to TV (HuffPost Live interview)

As I was looking over DailyTekk’s analytics recently I noticed that a lot of people are landing on our site after Googling “what is coding?” Most likely, these searchers end up on a popular article I wrote awhile back called 7 Easy Ways to Learn Coding and Computer Science for Free or The 10 Best Ways to Teach Kids How to Code. But neither of those articles explains what coding is. So I’ve decided to put together a skimpost that breaks down exactly what coding is for complete beginners.

TIP: We publish useful new tech lists every weekday. See them all!

Also read: 100 Terrific Tools for Coders and Developers

  1. Code is a set of instructions (or rules) that computers can understand; it might be helpful to think of code as a recipe.
  2. People write code, code powers computers and computers power many everyday objects like phones, watches, microwaves and cars.
  3. In fact, almost anything powered by electricity uses code.
  4. There are many names for people who code: coders, programmers, developers, computer scientists, software engineers, etc.
  5. Computers run on binary code—written in 1s and 0s—which is very difficult for humans to work with.
  6. But just as people can understand different languages computers can understand different languages (like Python, C, C++, Perl, Visual Basic, Java, Javascript, Ruby and PHP, among others) which translate our instructions into binary.
  7. There are “low-level” and “high-level” coding languages. Lower-level languages more closely resemble binary code while higher-level languages are easier to code in.
  8. So learning to code is literally like learning a new language (learning to construct sentences, etc.).
  9. Most popular programming languages in use today are high-level languages.
  10. C is a low-level programming language that is good for graphics-heavy applications, like games.
  11. Javascript is for for the web.
  12. Perl is sometimes known as the “Swiss-Army knife” of programming languages because of it’s multi-functionality.
  13. Many coding languages share similar basic features.
  14. A text file written in a particular programming language is called a program (think a set of instructions).
  15. There are many ways to learn how to code for free or very cheap.

You will get a job when you have a portfolio that you can demonstrate that you can do some shit.

To get to that point you have to build some shit.

This starts you off building shit.

You don't need to have a college degree, all you need to have is the will and drive.

I got back into programming after having spent many years in management. I saw a 13 yr old white kid in 2009 with 1 million downloads of an app he created.

I said fuck it, if a 13yr kid could do this shit then i could do this shit.

Never looked back.

I don't have an app with 1 million downloads but what i do have is an app that is in 126 countries and counting and growing consistently.

I'm now in the process of building 1 more app and 1 platform.

The skills I learned from the process have allowed be to be paid a lot of money today.

And those skills not only include programming but things like scaling an app, app store optimization, Amazon AWS as a backend, firebase, parse etc

You can't lose.

This a start kinfolk...

Something I was thinking about was like a study chatroom or something to that nature. I have three non bgol members that I've forwarded this info to.

Something like that could be very beneficial.

Just throwing ideas out there, so nothing is left out when discussing the setup...

I want to learn python and SQL .

Which route or courses should I take?

I'm looking to work in the financial world again, but in the IT section.

If that doesn't work, what other industries can I use these certifications for?

I'm really interested, but would like some advice.

I understand the need for people to save money but to get a single account and for multiple people to share it when they are basically giving you course that you would have to hundreds of dollars elsewhere for the cost of a Big Mac Meal tells me people are putting their priority elsewhere.

Also for those that don't realize it but the BGOL Business Forum has many of the Udemy (and other) courses available for download for free.

Knowledge is power.

So who is ready to start the IOS 9 course?

I can start a separate thread for those interested and put up assigned lessons per week to keep everyone honest and making consistent progress.

Thoughts?
