Then why do you expect Michael Jordan to be a martyr when you just acknowledged that he would've had to sacrifice his person dreams to a cause that wasn't even his?
by cause that wasnt his i assume you mean wasnt his idea. the civil rights movement wasnt medgar evers idea but he committed to it.

Why do you say a billion wasn't on the line? Becoming the first billionaire athlete was always a goal for MJ. And anybody with a shred of common sense and foresight would realize what Craig Hodges was suggesting at the time ran counter to MJ's goal.

Again, we always want people with a lot to lose to risk it for causes that we believe in more than they do. It's insanity. It'd be one thing if MJ had agreed to do it and reneged, but are we really bothered that MJ had zero interest in doing a bad business deal? Because at the end of the day, that's what it was.
Calling it a bad business deal is being nice. MJ and Hodges would have had to stop playing basketball and dedicate their lives to run a shoe factory that would have gone bankrupt in less than a year. Even before they had a chance to sell one shoe.

Michael Jordan may have been standing on HIS principles at the time too

His principles and integrity were great on the court, but what about off the court? People saw in great detail how much Jordan could be an asshole, and there have been so many other stories as well. He was a great ballplayer, but as a man, he is somewhat lacking.
