My understanding is that it was recorded by a third person, who was following Aubery under the same suspicion as the other two, but without the armed and lethal response. If true, that person is at least smarter than the others, because they weren't trying to confront anyone directly. ...that we know of. It's all speculation at this point, and we will, sadly, only hear one side of the story
