i want a system that's not trying to hit me with a monthly subscription
I don’t believe nest charges

The ring works through your WiFi

Nest & Ring subscriptions are very different

RING only records when motion is detected

If you don't buy a subscription, Ring doesn't store anything in the cloud

Ring Protect subscription is $3/month per device
or $10/month for whole house (includes theft replacement warranty)

Video storage is for 60 days
https://shop.ring.com/pages/protect-plans

NEST records 24x7

If you don't buy a subscription, Nest stores motion snapshots in the cloud for 3 hours

Nest Aware subscription is priced as follows:
  • $5/month for 5-day video storage for the 1st device
  • $10/month for 10-day video storage for the 1st device
  • $30/month for 30-day video storage for the 1st device

already got the one camera blink system

it's ok for what it is....... the video quality sucks especially on the night vision

but it triggers pretty fast and you can remotely see what's happening from your phone

my biggest wish is that it somehow could arm itself when you leave the house

i bought it just to test it out and didn't bother returning it it was only 100 bucks

i wouldn't use it for my main video system
I'll probably upgrade for a better system, but I just wanted something for the present. I have a porch light that is always on, so it really wont use the night vision, and the one for the rear of the house is getting placed next to my solar charged motion detector light

Honestly; an entry level iPad is the best; we ran ABC Mouse and now use ToDo math on a iPad mini 4 for education and it’s seamless; tried the fire tablet but was no where near the app quality and smoothness of the iPad. Let’s not mention Netflix for road trips and stuff. Worth the money IMO.

how is that ToDo math?

Prime Down: Amazon’s sale day turns into fail day
Matt Burns

  • Update: Here’s how to get around Amazon’s error. Use smile.amazon.com. TechCrunch confirmed this workaround works.
It’s not just you. Amazon Prime Day started 15 minutes ago, and so far, it’s not going well for Amazon. The landing page for Prime Day does not work. When most links are clicked, readers are sent to an error page or to a landing page that sends readers back to the main landing page.

Direct links to the product pages, either from outside links or the single product placement on the landing page, seem to work fine. I just bought this tent two weeks ago for $120. Some users are reporting errors when completing a purchase, too.

This is a huge blow to Amazon and its faux holiday Prime Day. The retailer has been pushing this event for weeks and there are some great deals to be had. It’s not a good look for the world’s largest retailer even though the retailer saw glitches last year, too.

Other retailers jumped on Amazon’s bandwagon and are running big sales around Prime Day. As of this post’s publication, both Walmart and Target are not suffering site outages and probably love Amazon’s outage.

Also, this.

Updating…

3:30pm EDT: It’s 30 minutes past the launch of Prime Day and the landing page and deal navigation page is still down.

I saw a few things but I wasn't impressed with the prices I saw.

It feels like a tax free weekend sale.

They still get to clear out some of their inventory on some their hyped and lesser items....so it could still be a win for them if things turn around.

It’s really good; I let my kid use the free version for months and it was more than robust; I went ahead and paid the $47+ for a year subscription to get access to the more advanced stuff. It’s a great intro (free version) into basic math.

Amazon getting hammered right now. Pages timing out....

Must be nice. :money:

:lol::smh:

I have been getting a couple of those Amazon dogs on occasion..

Here's the story behind the dogs you're seeing on the Amazon Prime Day error pages
5b4cf6cb062a6b9f658b4571-750-796.jpg
Amazon

  • Many people trying to access Amazon's homepage during Prime Day were greeted with error messages - messages featuring a selection of cute dogs.
  • The 'dogs of Amazon' featured in these pages are dogs owned by the employees that come to work with their owners.
  • "At Amazon, bring-your-dog-to-work day is every day," a blog post by the company reads.
It's a little hard to be frustrated at a website's error message when there's a little four-legged friend staring back at you.

That's what plenty of Amazon customers saw at the onset of Prime Day 2018 when Amazon's website appeared to go down for many users.

Refreshing the page brings up a different dog, with the message "Sorry - something went wrong on our end. Please go back and try again or go to Amazon's home page." Clicking on the link to the home page only resulted in another dog popping up on the screen, with the same error message.

But these messages are nothing new - dogs have been a part of Amazon's 404 'page not found' error pages since at least 2006, Forbes reports.

The 'dogs of Amazon' are dogs that belong to Amazon employees, and come with their owners to work, as explained in an Amazon blog post. According to Amazon, nearly 6,000 dogs come to work with their owners at the Seattle headquarters, and "At Amazon, bring-your-dog-to-work day is every day," the blog post says.

The blog continues to explain that this dog-friendly tradition extends back to the beginning of the company, when a couple working at Amazon brought their Welsh Corgi, Rufus, to work with them - where "employees would use Rufus' paw to click the computer mouse to launch some of the earliest pages of Amazon.com," the blog says.

Reception desks at Amazon have dog treats, the blog says, and the campus is complete with a "doggie deck" where dogs can blow off some steam and play with each other.

Amazon treasure truck has ring doorbells for 136 today

That's the Ring 2. The Pro is supposed to be the upgrade

BOTH record 1080p resolution

RING 2:
removable battery pack
basic motion detection (just picks up ANY motion)
2.4GHz band
Bigger, bulkier, most agree not as aesthetically nice as the Pro

PRO:
Hardwired
Advanced motion detection (can determine if motion is a person vs "other")
2.4 or 5GHz band
Slimmer than Ring 2

FUCK YES. I own 3 of them. FAST as fuck, you can throw the kitchen sink at it with Kodi and Terrarium TV, VLC player, Plex and it plays games if you really board...Fuck with it.

Looking to cut the cord. Anyone see any deals for any streamers that support YouTube TV. I'm on some cheap shit $30 or less for my bedroom and my guest room. I'll go higher if I have to

If u have a Costco membership, they've matched Amazon's price on the Ring Pro ($174) and included a 1 year subscription for free

We went with the Blink XT. I've had 1 for a while, no complaints. I got 2 more today. Price is a lot cheaper.
