Any Screenwriters On The Board??

Nah, Bro the real reason is producers are who are medeling with script. And also working with the same old people.

This is why we need to start are own. Well maybe with what is happening now it might change. But it's a safe club.

Producers have been meddling with scripts since the beginning of film so I don't think it's gotten worse. But I have read interviews from screenwriters who say today's executives don't really love movies. They have business degrees and only care about the bottom line.

I agree with you on working with the same old people. Damon Lindelof gets all the credit for the Watchmen show on HBO, but there were talented Black writers in the room he said prevented him from fucking it up. When he decided one season was enough for him, why didn't HBO talk to the Black writers and see if they had any ideas going forward with the show or new ideas in general? :smh:

That's a cool concept!

John Legend's production company produced La La Land and Pharrell was one of the producers of that Roxanne Shante Netflix movie. I know they're long shots, but you never know...
Thanks bro that’s an great idea.

Pharrel has done a few films. I like the work he did with Despicable Me as well.

Even if I don’t land anything with him I think the experience would be valuable.

The problem is the hold on to their Hollywood formula which is outdated. The producers back then knew what they were doing. Not so much now.

This sounds like a cool opportunity.

The application deadline for "large scale action-adventure movies" is July 6.

They haven't announced the three other genres yet, but I would expect comedy and horror to be in the mix.

Writers, here’s your chance to fast-track your brilliant idea into a Netflix film. Imagine Impact, a branch of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s production company, is calling for submissions as part of a deal with Netflix that will see Impact identify and help develop feature film ideas, in four specific genres, over the next year. The first of four genre-specific application windows opens Wednesday. The first round of projects being considered are “large scale action-adventure movies for all audiences.” Applications will be accepted through July 6.

Imagine Impact, founded by Grazer, Howard, and Tyler Mitchell in 2018, is a content accelerator program that has held three sessions so far. Creatives apply in an open application process and those admitted take part in an intense, eight-week program that seeks unknown or underrepresented writers with unique stories and gets their projects ready for sale, in part by pairing creators with experienced mentors.

RELATED

Imagine Impact’s partnership with Netflix seeks to apply a similar model, which organizers told IndieWire last year seeks to democratize access to the industry. While previous editions saw projects developed with the help of mentors ahead of a pitch day in front of a room of buyers, this one works differently.

A group of finalists selected by Impact will be presented directly to Netflix. If the streamer chooses to develop one or more of those projects, the writer will sign an agreement with Netflix and be paid a WGA-set fee, and then be paired with an Impact mentor, who will help the writer deliver a first draft to Netflix. Unlike previous Impact sessions, selected writers will not need to relocate and can participate in the process virtually.

“Netflix is the most innovative content creation and distribution company of the last decade, leading the way in streaming since 2007 and changing the original content game with House of Cards in 2013. As Impact continues to evolve the way that global talent is discovered, projects are developed and how the creative industry connects, this partnership demonstrates both companies’ commitment to improving the development system in order to generate more original, quality IP to meet the growing demand,” Grazer, Howard, and Mitchell said in a statement.

The other three genre application windows will be announced in July, September, and November.

Since its founding in 2018, Imagine Impact has helped develop 62 TV and film projects, with 22 sold or set-up. Among them is Godwin Jabangwe’s Tunga, an animated family adventure musical inspired by the mythology of the Zimbabwe’s Shona culture of Zimbabwe, which is set up at Netflix.

For each of its three sessions to date, Impact received more than 4,000 applications from 81 countries. With about 20 slots per session, that’s an acceptance rate of less than half of one percent.

Impact recently expanded to Australia in partnership with Gentle Giant Media Group and Screen Australia.

Well I didn’t make the Quarterfinal for Script Pipeline. I’ll see how I do in the other competition. And then I’ll enter the one you just posted. Thanks.

It's all subjective anyway. There are tons of stories about scripts doing nothing in contests but still end up getting sold and produced. The hard part is figuring out when to keep pushing a script and when to move on.

Absolutely. That’s one of the first things I thought. My lead characters are Mexican and Black for what it’s worth.

I know we were supposed to start another script in a month challenge but I just don't have the time right now. I'm trying to finish a major rewrite and meet some contest deadlines. I'll still try to post screenwriting content when I can.

@raze. I made some changes and entered this one. Should make it an easier read. They wanted a thirty second pitch clip for the script, so I threw that in.

thanks

Looks like they threw us a curve ball. I was expecting something more traditional like comedy, sci-fi, or horror. The script could still involve those genres, it just has to be about some kind of competition.

I got nothing. Guess I'll have to wait for the other slots to open.

On second thought, I'm doing this one. These screenplay-in-a-month exercises have been good practice. Professional writers constantly have to write under pressure. Why not shoot your shot at something with a tangible reward? :dunno:

Plus, it's free so there's absolutely nothing to lose.

I have an abandoned idea and maybe a paragraph of notes. Maybe I can turn it into something. Once again, I'll document my progress as I go.

Day 1: Settled on a title and the type competition. Protagonist is a female teenager. That pretty much covers my old notes.

Stumbled across this on twitter:

Seems legit, but do your own research and make sure your material is copyrighted.

Day 21: This one has been a struggle. I knew what I wanted the story to be about, but I just couldn't find the right angle. It didn't help that I recently saw a trailer for an upcoming movie dealing with same subject and taking place in the same setting. I hate when that happens.

The August 30th deadline is way out of reach, but I was still kicking the idea around, getting nowhere... until today. Found my angle.

I've been trying really hard but maybe low budget scripts aren't my thing. I'm not writing $100M blockbusters, but sometimes I like to put in an eye- catching visual or a fun set piece.

Anyway, I have a good concept that wouldn't have occurred me without this Netflix/Imagine Impact process. A lot of professional screenwriters say it's important to have more than one script that's ready to go. Still trying to get there...

Well I didn’t make the final for the free contest. I’ll read the critique when I get it. It’s my first one. So sooner or later I’ll get started on my second. I already have an idea.
