Anybody ever use Magic Jack?

I'm about to relocate and looking for a way to have a home phone line without paying a lot of extra money. $39.95 for the first year and $19.95 each year after that. Just seems kinda suspect to me, or everyone and their momma would have one.....

I use it for my business line at home. It works fine as long as your Internet is up. The call quality is clear, caller ID works and 911 works.

It's a good deal.

I got something made by RCA at radio shack back in the day.. plug it into an outlet near a phone jack and it has two jacks one for the incoming line and one to the phone. then there was another remote unti that plugged into a jack in the room you want the other phone. one line out to the phone.. worked great

thanks for the input. i saw something that verizon has out for $19.99/month. similar to magic jack but it uses your verizon wireless account.

I personally havent used it but I know my cousin is. He is currently stationed in El Salvador and he calls me all the time from out there and the number shows up as a local number. I finally asked how in tha hell is he doin that nad he said that he is using magic jack and that he was able to chose a local number as he call number. He said his homeboy is in Kuwait and is using a number from San Diego. Calls sound clear as shit imo.

Some guys at work use it and I can't figure out how they get calls because their number is always changing.

My brothers and I set up my father with one, he's retired in the Dominican Republic. It works most of the time, it saves long distance charges in the long run.

had it since 06 works fine for me
neva been charged xtra for nethin (how YOU get charged for incomming calls?)
my number is the same since i bought it
gonna buy another in a few weeks

Most of the people complaining probably have crap upload speed. If you have DSL lite, or still rocking a 768k upload speed you probably won't like it. Unfortunately the people who love things like this usually go cheap on everything and you get what you pay for.

Consider the other costs involved, like the cost of running a pc 24/7. or faster internet if you are going basic

it works but the best way to use it is to give the person or person that u call the most one,in that when everu call them or they call u it is local call many people in the carribean have them

had mine for about 2 years.... works great. only problem comes if you get caught slipping on your internet bills.... its a pain in the ass trying to figure out how to pay your internet bill with no phone! lolololol

but as long as you dont get caught slipping on your bill your good. I use it as a "house" phone....but it works out, cause if i'm somewhere with wireless, i can take my "house" phone with me....
