thanks for responding. I’ve been trying to soak up as much info as I can. Especially regarding short selling.
No problem. Feel free to quote or @ me anytime you have any questions. We need an active thread because the main one died until I bumped it during my $TSLA post

Just a FYI for some of the newer investors. Be sure to put a trailing stop loss on EVERY company you have shares with. I generally set mine between 5 and 10 percent.

I had a few trigger these past couple of days.

Depending on the company, I buy more stock after a 10-15 percent loss. My risk tolerance is a bit high though.

For this comment, i would make sure you mention to brothas about the PDT rule. If a brotha bought too many stocks in one day with high volatility, he could get flagged if he has less than $25k equity.

Only if using a margins account. Cash accounts this doesn't apply - right?

PDT rule only applies to margin accounts, not cash accounts.

@Thrill3Seeker touched on the part 2 of setting a trailing stop loss on your companies. Seriously consider setting a limit order or trailing stop loss to take advantage of the ships and rises without having to sit in front of your computer all day monitoring stocks.

True, it does not apply to cash accounts but you need to margin account to be a short seller. If you are not into that then don’t worry about margin. Most day traders are short biased.

If you are following advice of @Tito_Jackson to set tight stops, you are likely a day or swing trader which would merit a margin account. True long investors don’t need stops that tight because they aren’t buying for a quick hold and flip.

I’m starting to see the nuances of short selling. I’m not ready to dive in with that just yet. Right now is “earnings season” and I’ve been hunting healthy companies that will get a good earnings bounce.

If you are not already doing so, start looking at the 5 year history. That will give you a good indication regarding the potential to bounce back.

For the newer investors, if you see something like GE, Walmart, Amazon, etc. have a really bad day on the market, buy. Stocks like those will bounce back. This is a quick and easy way to make money on margins.
