What are the carriers doing with the pre used devices once returned?

They're reselling or moving them to their MVNO's.

You would be surprised how many people turn in a device they thought they kept in good shape only to be charged for some type of damage.

Seems like the carriers are taking a lost doing that. I get a 10 a month discount credit on my payments from the carrier toward my phone payment. They might as well just sell them upfront at the discount price like before.

I don't believe they're profiting off it it, just not eating that cost anymore like they used to.

Preorder Your New iPhone or Apple Watch Tonight With These Tips

If you’re planning to preorder a new iPhone XS or Apple Watch Series 4, you’re going to have a late night tonight. All three devices—the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4—will be eligible for preordering at 12:01 PT. That’s California time—because in Apple’s world, all roads lead to Cupertino.

You’ll also be able to preorder the device from the “Big Four” carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. And this isn’t the kind of thing you’ll want to put off until the morning (the regular start-my-day kind of morning you’re thinking of). At least, not if you want a new iPhone on launch day... or within a few weeks of launch day.

Remember the iPhone X? It took until 12:10 or so for the shipping delays to start creeping in. Wait a half an hour or so, and you’d probably get a shipping delay of a month. If you’re a tech enthusiast, little is more annoying than watching your friends play with new devices that you can’t have.

For those burning the midnight oill, here are a few tips for getting your iPhone preorder locked in tonight:

Make sure you can log in without delays
Log into your Apple Store account right now. Make sure your credentials and password are correct, and consider saving these in your browser (or a third-party password manager) to save yourself a little time when you’re ready to preorder your new iPhone.

If you’ve previously set up two-factor authentication for your account, you might want to tell the login page on the Apple Store to “remember you,” so you can skip having to type in an verification code from an associated device (like your to-be-replaced iPhone) to log in.

(You can change that two-factor authentication setting here, but we recommend leaving it on for increased account security.)

Enter your payment information now
Why waste minutes fumbling with your credit card information? Every second during the great iPhone land grab is precious. On that same Account Settings page, you’ll see an option for entering your payment and shipping information in advance. Do that, so your checkout process goes even smoother and helps you get the fastest shipping times for your preordered device. (Or just use Apple Pay to buy your new stuff, which you should have already set up on your existing Apple device.)

If you’re using the Apple Store app to preorder your new device—and you should, which I’ll cover in a bit—make sure you enable Touch ID or Face ID for purchases, which should help you complete your transaction a lot faster versus having to type in your Apple ID password (especially if you keep fumbling your typing due to excitement or fatigue). You’ll find that setting by tapping on the little face icon in the upper-right corner of the app to access the Account screen, scrolling down and tapping the “Settings” option, and looking for “Touch ID” or “Face ID” on the subsequent screen.

As well, make sure you’ve checked the “Remember me” box in case you’re looking to take advantage of your carrier’s upgrade opportunities—if you’re locked into some kind of financing plan. This will spare you from having to enter any carrier-related information (like your wireless number billing zip code, et cetera) as you go through the upgrade process in the wee hours of the morning.

Get preapproved
If you’ve previously signed up for Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program, don’t forget to get preapproved if you’re looking to score a new iPhone tonight. You have until 4 p.m. PT today (9/13) to do it!

Don’t forget about the apps
You’ll want to pull up tabs for the various stores—Apple, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile—in your web browser, but while you’re frantically clicking refresh for the preorders to go live, don’t forget about each carrier’s apps, either. While the mobile carriers’ apps likely only work for subscribers (at least, based on my quick test of the Verizon and AT&T apps), you can at least download your carrier’s app to give yourself an extra resource for iPhone preorders. You might even luck out, if the carrier’s app allows preorders before Apple.

That said, your best option is to stick with the Apple Store app (if you’re already bought into Apple’s ecosystem). Last year, for the iPhone X preorder madness, the Apple Store app actually had inventory to preorder before Apple’s website. It’s also a lot quicker to run through the transaction process on your iPhone or iPad than Apple’s website.

If you’re coming from Android, ask a friend if you can borrow their iPhone or iPad for the evening, or go with your carrier’s app as a backup. Don’t just rely on websites: Once 12:01 hits, start refreshing these apps, too.

Configure your iPhone or Apple Watch in advance

hsbyxj4xnftiv4gufx2j.png

Don’t waste time looking at configurations and colors tonight. You can go over the options, pick your carrier, select your color and storage, and add the iPhone to your favorites on either the Apple Store website or your Apple Store app. Just look for the heart icon on the final webpage where Apple asks if you’d like to add AppleCare+ coverage (or the heart icon in the upper-right corner of the Apple Store app).

Then, when preorders go live, you can click on the bag icon and select “Favorites” on Apple’s website, or tap on the profile icon in the upper-right corner of the Apple Store app to pull up your preconfigured device, and beat a number of other shoppers to a preoreder.

(If you’re trading in your old iPhone via Apple’s GiveBack program, you’ll have to enter that information manually—you can’t save it—so don’t forget!)

Set the right alarm
I don’t think you’ll oversleep or anything like that if you’re really intending to make an iPhone preorder tonight. What might happen, though, is that you’ll set an alarm for 11:45 p.m. PT. It’ll go off, you’ll remember that you have to place your preorder in the next 15 minutes, and you’ll go do something else to fill the time. Then, when it’s 12:11 a.m. and you’re already looking at a three-week shipping delay, you’ll be unhappy.

I don’t know what time works best for you, but give yourself enough of a buffer that you can load up all of your websites and apps, take a breather, and get ready to hustle for a new device. That’s probably not an entire hour early, but a minute early might be cutting it a bit close.

Start scouting early
Speaking of, you might also want to set up iPhone preorder searches on Twitter and Reddit, and start refreshing those—and the various carrier pages, as well as whatever apps you’re using—around a half-hour in advance (or more). If your carrier is foolish and launches preorders early, as was the case with the iPhone X last year, you’ll want to make sure you’re taking advantage of their mistake before the masses hear about it. Or, if you’re put into a preorder queue, hopefully you’ll be ahead of everyone else who kindly waited until 12:01 a.m. to jump in.

And this is the reason Apple can make a new phone add no new features and charge as much as a mid to high end macbook pro price. Fools
$1500 is not a lot of money to some people. and I get the principle that you can get some phone with the same features for less. but the point still stands that if it ain’t a lot of money to me and i want the latest and greatest iPhone.....I’m getting that shit! fuck everyone else’s opinion.

I'm in this same boat. I have a 6s Plus that I edit photos and video on and it's great. The only let down is the shitty stock camera that gave out months ago.

The new camera on this XS max is screaming my name however.

damn...the shit just stopped working?

It's not about if $1500 is a lot to some people. It gets to a point of principle. I'm more about make Apple earn the money. They don't even try anymore and just release half ass phones and charge what they want, because people like yourself enable them. Spending $1500 on something that probably cost $300 to make is foolish imo.

Next year's iPhone. Slightly better camera, better CPU, a few more dpi which they will call Liquid MAX Amoled. Starting price $1599.99 with 128GB of internal memory. If Apple copies the Note 9b and adds a pen. $1999.99 64GB of internal memory. 512GB version $2299.99

I was saying similar. Apple will fall with this raising the price BS. Greed will turn people off. 699 is too much for a phone as it is. You have phones for 350 that can do almost what the iPhone and Galaxy can do.

When people see that companies try to take advantage of their loyalty cats will start to backup and go elsewhere.

Not gonna happen with Apple users. They are loyal no matter what. 75% of their customers don't even understand what's been added to this new model. All they know is that it is an apple device and Apple said they should buy it

Sounds like you're trying to tell someone what they need to value & require in a device.

Their "half ass phones" rank as top consumer electronics with a high resale value so they're doing something right.

Telling people how and what to spend their money on is foolish and assuming it cost $300 to make is very foolish.

Sounds like the next version of every single consumer electronic.

Slightly better specs.

People expect to pay a premium for Apple products, their consumers aren't going anywhere.

I studied marketing myself. But one other valuable lesson I learned in life is TO NEVER UNDERESTIMATE people. People can break out of that mental chain

No offense but you sound like a fanboy.

Every company releases a new version of their product yearly, Apple is no exception.

Their pricing is their pricing and it's comparable to a laptop, because that is what these things are, they just happen to fit in our pockets.

I think you will find more Android users skipping devices than you would Apple.

You assume iPhone users are upgrading in mass and I think you would find your assumption is wrong.

If any user is upgrading annually they're either either on an iPhone or Galaxy for life type program.

iPhone users are generally happy with their devices.

So who is buying these millions of units that get reported everytime a device comes out?

Might as well have. It's blurry af with some kinda white haze on it every time I try and take a photo. I tried cleaning that shit off but nothing.

I was wondering if all the other 6s pluses were doing that too.
