Are Barbers Today Over Charging People Or Nah?

I pay the equivalent of 7 for a line up and shave and still think i am paying too much. This is way too frequent of a task to pay so much as what is listed above.

more power to the barbers out there....but damn....I been shaping myself up since I was in 8th grade (my dad was a barber) and cutting since I was in 10th grade...did my first cut junior year prom - mid bald fade...but i do keep up with a few young kats on youtube on the styles of today that my sons wear....so big ups to the barbers....but I have not dished out money for a cut except for maybe 5 times for myself or my sons since about 2012 (I'm over 50yo)

These MFs are ridiculous on these prices. At a local barber school they charge $20 for MFs that don't even know how to cut yet. I was trying to get my son to go back and get licensed so he can make money within the family as a side hustle.

Everybody is overcharging everybody these days. It's not just inflation, these corporations used COVID and supply-chain excuses to jack the fuck out of prices. Now the little guy is doing it too with the excuse of making up for money lost during COVID.
The rate of inflation and the availability of materials etc does not account for the crazy rise in prices.
I hate to beat a dead horse but trump removed a lot of the restrictions on corporations gouging consumers and whenever Biden tries to reinstate them reichpublicans block him. What a surprise.

BTW, I've been cutting my hair for at least 15 years. Last spring I treated myself to BaBylissPRO clippers and trimmers. Man, they are expensive but omg are they the truth.
Those prices are high. However, as long as there is a demand for their (barbers) services, the prices will continue to rise.

we always had barbers in the family so when they showed up for Sunday dinner or cookouts, the cuts were done.
They also taught their nephews and little cousins how to cut hair which was a money maker for them when they went away to school

Same shit for me, but that was......... Bout 11 years ago. Had the same barber since like 96. He was out of town the weekend I had a wedding. Went to Sally and got some Andis Masters and a 1 guard. Saw him 1 more time to take him a bottle and thank him for his service. Been doing my own shit since. I can't imagine paying 50 a week for a cut. They buggin!!!

Before I moved to Memphis the price had gotten up to 30 before tip in Detroit at my regular shop.
In Memphis it was 20 before tip. But the barbers didn't take appts, or the ones that did were late or no shows, or they fucked my shit up.
I could always line myself up so I said fuck it and just bit the bullet and started cutting my own shit. And now I have better lines and fades than any barber ever gave me in Memphis.
I'm not paying 30+ for a cut especially for these wack ass cuts in Memphis. The decision would be tougher back home.

Those rates are 1980's prices when high top fade was popular.
Naw cause the shit that their doing to people's hair is like going to a beautician....motherfuckers went in there bald and came out with a temp fade,I can cut hair but I can't do no surgery or magic like some of em can.
They doing surgery and magic on you,you have to pay......It's going to go up cause cats are getting trans plants at the rate of BBL's so their going to be back at the shops and the barbers are going to have to cut their hair like their doing a 300 piece puzzle cause he can't cut here or there cause that's where they plucked out the hair and this area is thicker than those areas...yeah you gotta pay.
10 dollars gets you in the chair and maybe this.....

Learn to cut your own hair, mayne. You may go bald a few times, but the money saved is worth it. It's really not that difficult. The hard thing is being able to cut everyones hair... thats the skill of a barber. Learning one head is easy as hell. Aint no way I'm paying $25 for a shape up

Since I grew my hair back, it takes longer to cut. Still rather do it then pay but I got free time and enjoy the shit. Shut the doors. Bump some music. Cut in peace in the master bathroom.
And I got to stay sharp, so no waiting 2 weeks between cuts for me. Looking at these prices, I now see why cats out here look so unkept.
