The Cobra's health has been failing for years now, so thank God he's going in while he's still around to enjoy it. And finally, finally, finally, my all-time favorite player, the player of my childhood, the player who made me a lifelong White Sox fan, the man who (other than my dad) made me love baseball, the coolest player in baseball history, John Shaft in cleats, the great Dick Allen is getting his Cooperstown plaque. And fuck the Baseball Writers of America for causing him to go in posthumously.
Early 70's Chicago baseball, we had Sweet Swinging Billy Williams on the Cubs, and Dick Allen on the Sox.
