Sadly this isn't the first I've heard of this

I don't know nothing about nothing
However the whispers were this was going on and Mariano didn't know anything until later on, he was playing ball not running day to day, the wife finds out realizes the severity and tries to shut everything down. But it got out especially when Mariano starting winning medals and awards etc for philanthropy and being a super Christian
Damn.
Its like an episode of law & order. I don't even want to go too deep or make any jokes. Child sex abuse should be the death penalty or life in prison with chemical castration. I hope Mariano didn't know anything. But it's very possible he did. I hope none of it is true period.
Because by ALL accounts Mariano is a good man.
Regardless I hope ALL the victims get justice if the allegations are true.
Well said, Playa.
On a related note - looking at how much criminal shit is going on in the education system (teachers getting arrested for all types of shit) ... I was thinking back to the 80s and 90s and GLAD to not remember any stories or rumors of teachers / coaches being sketchy or criminally inappropriate with fellow classmates. Teachers seemingly followed the rules & weren't deviant.
Crazy to see the amount of FEMALE teachers getting caught up in the 2010s and 2020s now. Mary Kay Letourneau back in the 90s seemed like a truly random or rare incident. Some 30 years later ... nope.
That said - one former classmate from the late-80s / early-90s was molested / raped by one of his scout leaders. Heard about that about 10 years after the fact, as he was going through a tough time experiencing mental illness and drug addiction. Heard about the sad developments as my dad's close friends with his parents to this day. Good dude (former classmate). Only went to elementary school with him, but he was always a nice kid who was eccentric and naive, but good-hearted. Stopped by his parents' place with my pops back in the mid-2000s and he was there, and we talked for a few minutes.
That's the thing I really don't think it was actually BETTER back then.
Victims were less likely to be believed. You didn't TALK about it. Especially with minority kids cops didn't care. Black kids were getting raped kidnapped and murdered back then too but cops ain't care.
Like you said we know NOW about church, schools, boy scouts, even those native American church run schools all were enabling systematic child abuse.
I think all those tv shows in the 80s telling kids to speak up actually REALLY helped in a major way that goes under appreciated
