Baseball.........Anybody still interested?

Players should never agree to salary caps!! I hate that the NFL and NBA have caps; shit is ridiculous!!!!
In the NFL I understand it more. Insurance for all these injuries even with how much money these owners make from tv revenue and ticket/merchandise sales is crazy as hell. We're talking about a 60 man roster as well. For MLB and NBA, especially MLB where there is revenue sharing, there needs to be a higher minimum cap that has to be spent. Bob Nutting every year for the Pirates bullshits every off season and doesn't spend a goddamn dime to improve the team. If your gonna put your hand in the pot to share muthafucka you better spend to improve your product.

I never understand a cap in any professional sports league; all it is is saving them owners from themselves by blaming the players!! Imagine being in your work area; and a cross the board, no matter what company, city, or your professional experience, you are cap on so much you can make :eek2: :smh:; naw pimp i aint feeling it!! These owners can operate plenty without a cap; and that lie with this competitive balance bullshit!! its just that, bullshit...

It's a bit deeper than that. The cap was also supose to bring competitive balace in the league. Interest from all teams fan base is essential for money to be made in any sport. If the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets and Phillies are able to sign ALL of the good players for whatever amount of money they can give them than what reason would a Royals or A's fan have to ever invest time or money into the sport? That's why the NFL works so well with competitive balance. With balance draws in more interest. More interest means more money for everyone.....including the players.

Theres no cap in baseball so some of this doesnt apply. What fuels interest isnt fans thinking their teams gonna win! ITS GAMBLING!! THAT THE NUMBER 1 GENERATOR OF INTEREST. 2nd is the amount of games played and 3rd is when and what day games are played!! those are the biggest generators of fueling interest, not competitive balance. And competitive balance is a lie pimp; Go look at NBA since 1980; its the same dam team every year who win or basically make the playoffs lol lol; it might be one or two that slip in every now and then; but its the same dam teams!! And these owners get paid no matter what team they put out; the NFL, for example, every team gets 300 million guaranteed; thats after they pay everything :giggle: so these owners dont care pimp; imagine waking up and knowing no matter how hard or not hard you work, no matter what type of service you give, no matter what type of shitty product you put out; you are guaranteed 300 plus million every fucking year!! at least with no salary cap, we would see what owners really cared!! You couldnt just pay players; you would have to develop players, player facilities would matter, scouting would matter more, how one treat players would matter, selling players on winning would matter, etc etc etc...

I actually think a salary cap forces you to develop players even more. You just can’t go out and buy the best players. So now you have to have interactions with people who know what they are doing. All of your points are valid, but let's not sit up here and act like there players are getting done dirty with a salary cap. These muthafuckas in the NBA can't get through 60 games nowadays in a season and have the best medical and recovery plans in the history of the sport. Competitive balance means something because look at how bad the ratings are in the NBA. Who the fuck is watching the Nets vs the Jazz on a Wednesday night. Now, gambling, yes, I didn't think of that part of it and you are absolutely 100% spot on with that one. That will keep the interest of many. So I think overall we both have valid points on why a cap should and shouldn't be in sports. Baseball has the luxury tax by the way which was brought on as sort of a "soft" cap. Go over this threshold of money and you will have to pay this amount. I'm okay with that.

GOOD POINTS!!! I appreciate the good dialogue!!

Ratings though for the NBA is overrated and miscalculated; however even if we use the old outdated model; ratings are driven by one major factor; a dominant team!! I posted several articles in the NBA thread where it proves; ratings are driven in the NBA win a team is dominant; people watch to see that; Ratings were up with Boston and LA in the 80s, Bulls in the 90s, Lakers in 00s, GS 2010s-2020s, Heat in between; Dominant teams push ratings; when there is parity or "competitive balance" thats when ratings drop in the NBA; nobody wants to see that shit lol

I see why you say you think the cap forces teams to develop players; but think about Tampa Rays; there is no cap in baseball so they cant compete with the Dodgers or Yankees or Mets or Phillies with spending; but yet they continue to churn out competitive teams year after year; why? because for them to compete they have to scout and develop; and they have to do it better than the big market teams; the Dodgers were horrible and mismanage 10-12 years ago! didnt become what they are until ownership change and wanted to win!! so now they are using their resources correctly; Why they get Ohtani or Saki?? they didnt outbid anyone; Ohtani got offered the same amount by Giants and Jays and a secret team; so why did he choose LA? why did Saki who could have sign anywhere because every team offered the same amount; thats called selling your team, infrastructure, tradition, how an organization treats players, facilities etc etc; those are the things that create a culture of winning, not just money!! Every player that the Dodgers sign say the same thing; this organization cares about its players, winning, investing in its players!!! see we can see first hand who cares about winning in Baseball; cant tell in the NFL because they recycle the same dumb people!!

Im not saying the players aint making money and getting treated like crap; but we also know most players arent paid what they are worth!! especially the top players; and thats in any professional sport; and with a cap, how can anyone get paid what they are worth?? how can we live in a "free market" country and support a salary cap?? thats backwards in it of itself!!

And heres another thing! with no cap now said player has to earn that big contract; not that player has a reason to go extra harder because he can get paid for play; as oppose to being locked into a set slotted salary

@DJ Phillies starting early being on fire. Like I said, I like the phillies chances against anyone. If the phillies can stay healthy, they will be fine.

He so dope for real!!! Baseball and the teams don’t know how to promote their players for nothing!! These teams should model after the NBA in regards to promoting players! No reason why he shouldn’t be everywhere in Ohio right now!!!

You are 100% right on your thoughts about player promotion. Another thing I've never understood was why there has never been a similar baseball equivalent to NFL Films. I grew up watching shows like the NFL Game of the Week and This Week in Pro Football. The way those shows combined game highlights with music made watching them as much fun as watching the games themselves. Those shows helped explode the popularity of the NFL. Somehow, baseball never got the idea.

I caught a few of Reds games on TV and the stands are not full at all.
Guess they figure why get excited, this dude going to out of here in 2027.

I think baseball is run by old dumb white men for real!! Baseball was the king and they didn’t have to work for it. And I think these guys still think it’s the 30s! No reason why what you stated suggested isn’t happening!!

Im say this one more time; that Jackson Merril contract might be the worse contract in baseball; well the Albies contract is the worse; but Merril is right up there! His agent should be fired and killed at the same dam time :smh: :smh:

Shit happens, players want to get paid regardless but its's a gamble because you never know what you're getting from a player being good or bad.

Its not a gamble bro! That dude is a young star at 21 years old; hes getting date raped slowly for the next 10 years...
Yikes, let me first say i wasn't familiar with his game nor understood what his contract was until I did a quick research and learned that he got a bad deal for 10 years. Also the padres are playing some good baseball as well.

When my phillies signed harper for $300+ million and the phillies made it to the world series but lost at the time, GM Middleton said that harper was underpaid and was worth way more.
All superstar players are underpaid; thats the nature of the business; but Harper didnt sign a bad contract; so let me explain to you what I mean; ESPN right now has Merril ranked as the 23rd best player in all of baseball; take out pitchers and hes top 20 player right now, and this is only the start of his 2nd season!! He was a rookie last year and in his rookie season he produced 5 war! now follow me; lets just say he stays at 5 war and doesnt get better; highly unlikely but for argument sake(sidenote 6 war is considered a superstar player); 1 war is worth 8-12 million per year! that means if he just stayed at 5, he should be getting minimum 40 million per year lol lol; so hes 21; he has 2 pre arbitration years; so in those 2 years he can not negotiate a pay raise thru arbitration; so he would make like a mill each year; then he would have 3 years of arbitration before he became a free agent; so with him producing 5 war, he would be in line for anywhere between 8-20 million per year; so lets just say a modest 10 million each for those 3 arbitration years; that means he would have made 32 million over the next 5 years(on the low end) and become a free agent at 26 years old !!! so at 26 years old, a player producing 5 war, what do you think that player would get; hmmm i would say minimum 450-500 million !!! his agent along with the Padres rob him!!! he left 300 million on the table easily!! one of the worse contracts ever!!!!!!
