I can agree and disagree with this at the same time because I'm gonna tell you why, there's some new school rappers that aren't nationally known that have talent rapping with substance but people gotta do the legwork to discover them.
But that’s the issue, fam. YOU gotta discover them. Old school they were already in your face. Nowadays only these wack ass no talent “rappers” get the buzz in the mainstream. It shouldn’t be like that. The overall genre has gotten watered down. Having actual lyrical skill is niche, not the norm. Back in the day, it was the other way around.

As long as you were big in your hood? You were good. Expectations were different. You wanted to be considered DOPE first and foremost.

We do over romanticize the past a little but because we has A LOT of back rappers. A lot groups had a few singles not ALBUMS that were great.
And the internet do it on the computer wave not in the basement or bathroom hurt and helped hop hop.
Also we have to accept we old. This is THEIR wave. We had ours. We need yo cultivate the adult contemporary hip hop more and SUPPORT these legends more.
But I like these new dudes just too many and again I'm old. I actually like Ice Spice and Favio. These new dudes just not for me. Just like I went through my no west coast phase in the 90s. But I came around.

The reason why is because record labels want artist they don't have to pay much to make some ratchet or catchy sound to play on the radios over and over again. So, any rapper with substance being conscious in their raps they don't even bother to sign those kind of rappers.
