Taking it all the way back, I am always reminded of the movie Tuskeegee Airmen. Black people will always be held to a different standard and be held more accountable for their actions. You don't get leeway or the benefit of the doubt, especially from police, so don't even be near the line.
Love does not equal trust. Yes, they are connected, but don't just put yourself out there constantly because you have feelings. People are people, and people will betray you.
And I think I mentioned it before, but I'll mention it again: do not send messages that can be viewed as negative or admissions of anything illegal. I don't care how much you trust your person. I don't care how "secure" you think things are. In fact, just assume everything you say or write is being recorded somehow, and don't put anything out there that you wouldn't want read into the public record.
All of that said, this relationship was clearly toxic as hell. Which is not me justifying him doing or not doing anything. But toxicity is the key thing that leads to situations like this. Don't get caught up, and you won't get caught up.
