Wondering if the movie rights deals Sony and Fox currently hold have any bearing on TV shows? Disney obviously had Spider-man and X-men characters on non-Fox/Sony affiliated TV networks all this time.

Don't hold your breath. You would see a cameo of SHIELD agents on a Spider-Man show before you saw a Spider-Man cameo on a SHIELD show.
Don't want our need them. Marvel doesn't share the wealth when it comes to other characters. This show should handle that,leave the popular heroes to the movies.
Characters won't show up but mentions of them will. Webbing all over New York after a fight. Rumors of kids in Westchester who can shoot laser beams out of their eyes....You know, eluding to something without giving up anything.
Just enough to give nerds a nerd-gasm they want and desperately need.
Good point. They want viewers to focus on the agents, not the random hero cameo of the week. But I hate how they have to act like these other characters don't exist.
The thought of Luke Cage cameo is long over due.
I think this is a good idea...the weakness of smallville was the silly villain of the week thing. Look how Arrow has improved every episode cause they mix it up added the flashback and supposedly a flashforward soon. I think SHIELD will make great use of the Marvel Universe not just the characters but the companies and cities etc. Like going to the Daily Bugle, seeing Jarvis at Avengers Mansion, Baxter Building, X-Man's School Upstate, Dr. Stange's Santum, that alone would make the show nerd heaven...
Or mentions of Matt Murdock providing legal advice, Mary Jane on a magazine cover, Donald Blake working in a hospital.
Joss and his crew are PERFECT for utilizing the mythology like that...just look at how layered and intertwined the Buffyverse
they shouldnt, they should test and dabble with other lesser known characters and see if they can develop them into something ie.,

Heroes for Hire
War Machine
Dr. Strange
Namor
Marvel's Illumanti
etc...

Dr. Strange, Namor and War Machine should get their own films, Winter Soldier is already in the Captain America sequel, but agree with the rest.

as long as Fox has the rights to xmen and the fantastic 4 and sony spiderman i doubt there will even be mentions of them on this show 
however i bet if hugh jackman said he wanted to direct an episode and appear in it as wolverine theyd be changing their plans real quick
