I tried some of the Southern Draw cigars based on the comments here.

Rose of Sharon was ok but from all I heard about it I expected more. However, I'm not really a fan of the Connecticut wrapper.

Jacob's Ladder was really good and will likely be added to my regulars.

Cedrus was good, not likely to become a regular, but would maybe grab a 5 pack or pick up a sampler that includes them.

In any case, I enjoyed them all enough to try more of there cigars.

If anyone's interested, happened to see this on Slickdeals. They aren't great cigs, but bought it for the Herf-a-dor. I have two, but for the price, not bad. Comments said 4 of the cigs are good smokes, so for the price, hey whatever...

Ok. So you like full-bodied, full flavor cigars. You like to smoke power bombs. Nothing wrong with that. The Jacobs Ladder is a powerful cigar, but it has flavor to it. It’s not just a powerful cigar just for the sake of it. The Cedrus is very good cigar it’s not as powerful as the Jacobs. I tell you what. I just got finished enjoying a Southern Dream Ignite Navy Seal No.3 and that thing is spicy. Since you like the Jacobs Ladder try one of those. I started coughing as soon as I lit that muthfucka up! Lol. It was very enjoyable though. If you are familiar with an Ecuadorian habano wrapper then you will know what to expect. However, the spice and white pepper was kicked up a notch. I wasn’t ready. Lol. Good cigar though I enjoyed it. Silver ashes my friend.

Here is a pic of the Southern Draw Navy Seal for reference. I lifted the pic from another site:

I had a few of those last year when they came out. It was memorable, but not No.1 in my opinion. It’s definitely a good cigar. I don’t think I took a picture with it. I liked the F55 Quattro Maduro, so I was a fan already. I wasn’t disappointed either, but No.1 I don’t know about that.

Thanks for pointing that out, didn't even know the difference on them.
Then I see Cigars Int'l has them. Just not the torpedo.

Good assessment! However, I don't mind a milder cigar, but some Connecticut's are just a little too bland for my taste.

There have been a couple I have liked over the years, but the only one that has really been memorable is the Blind man's bluff.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check it out.

That’s interesting you didn’t like the Rose of Sharon, but you liked the Blind Man’s Bluff Connecticut. The Rose of Sharon had way more flavor/body to me. It’s very complex. However, the Blind Man’s Bluff Conn ain’t no slouch either. It’s just not as complex in my opinion. Well, you definitely have superb taste. One

I'll give it another try. I probably didn't give it a fair shake because of the hype. The Jacob's Ladder was way better than I expected, and I had it first, so my expectations were high.

So you had the Jacobs Ladder first? Did you have it on the same day? If so, then that’s why you didn’t like it. You had already started your day with a full-bodied, full flavor cigar and it just overpowered the taste of the Rose of Sharon. I always enjoy cigars with a Connecticut wrapper early in the day as my first cigar being as though they tend to be on the mild to medium side. Then I work my way up to medium to full.

The Jacobs Ladder uses a Pennsylvania broadleaf wrapper which isn’t used a lot as a cigar wrapper. AJ Fernandez made it popular. A lot of blenders tend to shy away from it because it burns slow so they use it as filler more than anything. However, blenders are starting to use it more often, mainly AJ though.

Gonna see what this Connecticut wrapper do on this Perdomo.

Never really been a HUGE fan of Connecticuts, but then again these new age blends ain’t exactly our momma Connecticuts. From people I talk to, and what I see and read, I need to step outside of my comfort zones and try em out.

If you want a smooth medium bodied cigar...this is it!!!..Smooth light up from the start...with earthy aromas. I fired it up with my new Vector Thunderbird insert housed in a Zippo case. My V Cutter from Colibri never fails me...now off we go.
The ash held over an inch before it fell off..noticing not much of a change with the earthy and leather tasting aromas (30 minutes later)...could be missing some more notes (Need to work on retrohaling).Loved the band on the cigar.

@CORNBREAD got a brotha following in his footsteps. Lol

OK just sharing... in the video above about the cooler dude used heartfelt humidity beads.

They go for $40 a pound

This video

Dude uses litter pearls

Heartfelt-beads-vs-kitty-litter-640x400.jpg

Beads are the way to go!
Beads last forever and all they need is a couple sprays of distilled water every week or two. There are two types of beads you can buy and they are all very similar.

  • Heartfelt Beads (possibly the best option but also the most expensive)
  • Crystal type kitty litter (the cheapest solution but it’s important you buy the right kind)
The correct type of kitty litter is a crystal pearl that DOES NOT contain blue fragrant chunks. Some people have argued that kitty litter isn’t as good as Heartfelt beads. They could be right, but in the testing I have done, kitty litter performs just as good as the Heartfelt beads. (keep in mind I’m no scientist)

To set up your humidity bead pouches use the follow step by step guide:

Setup is as easy as this:

humidity-beads-600x600.jpg

  1. Pour 1/4 cup of beads (or litter) into the toe of some new panty hose.
  2. Tie off panty hose and cut-off excess.
  3. Spray with 3-4 squirts of distilled water.
  4. Place in humidor where it’s NOT touching your cigars.
  5. Relax, and smoke a cigar knowing your worries are over.
Simply spray with distilled water every week or two, depending on the RH reading of your digital hygrometer. Do not rely on the analog hygrometer that comes with your humidor as those are wildly inaccurate – our recommended hygrometer is the XIKAR Round Digital Hygrometer. Depending on your humidor setup, you might need to add more or less bead pouches, but a good rule of thumb is one 3 ounce pouch per 50 cigars. Here in the dry climate of Colorado, I double my recipe. For reference, your bead pouch should be about the size of a lime.

Reference: How Much Beads to Use
The rule of thumb is to use 1 ounce of humidity beads for every 500 cubic inches of humidor space.

That information can be found by simply multiplying the length x width x height of your humidor.
Example: If your humidor measures 10″ x 24″ x 36″ = 8,640 cubic inches. Divide cubic inches by 500 and you’ll see you need roughly 17 ounces of beads.
We’re going to make this even easier. Here’s a basic guide on how much beads to use for different humidor sizes. Remember, one bead pouch is about 3oz (about the size of a lime)
Coolidors
Humidors
1 – 20 count travel humidorSmall, half-sized bead pouch
20 – 100 count humidor1 bead pouch
100 – 300 count humidor2 bead pouches OR 1 half-pouch on each shelf
500 count humidor3 – 4 bead pouches
1,000 count humidor3 – 4 double-filled bead pouches OR 3 cigar boxes filled with 10 ounces of beads
25 quart1 pouch
70 quart2.5 pouches
150 quart2 cigar boxes filled with 9 ounces of beads
As Cigar Wineadors consist of a wide variety of sizes, you’ll need to calculate the interior size yourself, simply by measuring.

IMPORTANT: Do not over spray or soak your beads with too much water. Just a few squirts is all you need (too much water can cause the beads to crack and become less effective, or worse yet, too much water could lead to mold).

And that’s all there is to it! Your beads will never go bad or need replacing. All they will need is a few squirts of distilled water every couple weeks. And the fun part is, after a few months in there with your cigars, your bead pouch will smell like delicious tobacco!

Obviously you have to decide whats best for your system but 1 pound of heartfelt beads = 5 pounds of the litter beads :dunno: :hmm::confused:
