Congressional Black Caucus rips Justice Democrats "for targeting black lawmakers for primaries"

What steak has she passed?

Lmao!!

Pls stop it bruh. This amazing chick has been in office for only 2 years and she's maintained all the positions, arguments and votes I could only dream of as a Dem. Thank God for progressives bruh, fuck all these 2/3d Republican, Kente cloth wearing Dems lmao. Keep praying for her to be primaried and keep being disappointed my guy lol.

You mentioned that you're above the fray and wishing her and others well. Bullshit man. Be real with yourself first and foremost. I legit think Biden is trash but compared to Trump he's a goddamn shining light on a mountain and most progressives I know are voting for that uninspiring old dementia addled fuck... bc the alternative is unacceptable.

I think this "ain’t got nothing but twitter" talk is an oft-repeated cop out. Of course there are bots and it's not totally representative, but it skews a bit into the realm of "ain't got nothing but people" (since most Twitter followers represent actual people). AOC does not get the coverage she does based simply on Twitter followers and she didn't get elected based off of that either. She has a lot of passionate supporters and I don't think a fair observer could deny that.

You make valid points regarding the need to build a voting coalition. I think primaries are a tool to work toward that. One problem with the Democratic Party is a failure to think beyond the next election-- reshaping the party can't happen in one cycle, but if the composition of Congress is significantly different ten years from now, nobody will look back and care about AOC's ability to build coalitions as a freshman lawmaker as part of a Congress where no significant legislation can be passed anyway. AOC's chief talent is shaping the narrative. She'll be a lot more influential under a President Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.

All of the criticism is directed at the leftist legislators but the centrists deserve greater ire IMO. Do you think Democrats running an explicitly "pro-Trump Democrat" against Mitch McConnell helps the Democratic brand? Republicans maintain complete solidarity when a president who they know is unstable tells minority lawmakers to go back to their countries. Democrats can't even achieve unity when it comes to the incredibly important subject of a Supreme Court nomination because of these "blue dog Dems." Whether or not that is a majority worth keeping is debatable. I'd rather lose these seats that Dems typically lose anyway and work to create a party with clearer principles as a broader strategy over focusing on short-term gains that devalue the Democratic brand in the long-term.

A "Pro-Trump" Democrat is called a fucking Republican!!! Fuck these "Blue-Dog Democrats" and move forward with progressives. I have never given as much $ to political people in my life, but fuck it you gotta put your money where your mouth is in these times!!

So positions, arguments and votes. But hasn't actually passed anything. And she won't until she is able to bring along the Dems you hate. Bernard is super popular in Vermont. That doesn't mean he ever gets anything passed. I get it, you love her tweets and clapbacks and her TV appearances.

Not a single one of those things gets legislation passed.

I'm not disappointed she won. She's not my representative so it doesn't matter what she does. If she could use her talents to try to reach consensus and move legislation that could help make things better, it would be great. Or she can keep tweeting and making viral moments to satisfy you but not really change a single thing.

My brother. I can almost see your "Clint Eastwood on a porch scowling" ass face rn. Keep watching her and keep being dismissive but promise to update us when you realize you're wrong af.

You will get it eventually, I promise.

No, SHE'LL get it eventually. This system is built to force compromise. She's not the first young passionate person to enter the congress. She's not the first person that's "going to change the world!".

In the end either she will learn to work with others, stop attacking her own team, and learn to build consensus, or she will be like Bernie, giving great speeches for 30 years but no real legislation to think of. The choice is up to her.

Because no matter how much you like her, she is still only 1 out of 218 votes needed to pass a bill.

Update us when she is able to count as more than one vote.

And until that time that she is able to convince 217 other house members, most of which will not be progressive, to vote with her on legislation, she will not pass any.

So cool you have your pompoms out and she's AMAZING!!!!!. She's still only one vote.

And that's the truth.

Lol @ legitimately talking about "compromise" in the age of Trump bruh smh. You're lost! Can you imagine watching this admin and pretending that the only thing that matters is how milquetoaste your folks can be as an alternative?? Lol

AOC will be around for a long damn time despite your bs misgivings bruh. Get comfy! No pompoms necessary for basic reality lol. Lemme know if u feel the same about her in 2030 bruh. I'm positive even your curmudgeonly ass will understand her appeal before then lmao

And in 2030 she will still only be 1 vote.

And she will still need to convince representatives from places that aren't in NY to vote with her. Until NY and California get 218 seats between them, you 're going to need to convince people from the South and Midwest to vote with you. So yes, she's going to have to compromise. Unless one of her superpowers you think she has is the ability to change the rules of the House by herself. Lol.

I understand her appeal to you. You like her tweets, her viral moments. AOC TOLD THEM REPUBLICANS GOT DAYUM!!!1!!!111. LMAO.

And I promise you this, in the next 10 years, some new young person will come up and call AOC the establishment and someone will tell your old ass and her old ass to get out the way LMAO.

My man is literally saying, just wait, 10 years from now AOC's gonna pass a bill and then you'll be sorry.

Lol

Breh, you thought AOC would be primaried lmao. I've been respectful but honestly you're lost af :roflmao3:

The only viable path to progress is to replace do nothing democrats with candidates who are willing to fight for the significant changes that AOC advocates.

Compromise seems reasonable until you realize that big money loves it like it is and they control too many dems who will do nothing to change the status quo b/c they love power and influence more than their constituents

Justice dems are trying to get enough voices on congress to form a caucus, call out how the legalized bribery influences policy and start a national movement centered around the corrupting influence of money on politics

Never forget "old money is kkk money" and as long as Wallstreet is in charge all progress will be superficial at best

I have criticized AOC but I have to praise her as well...

This is what I always know she could do. She went in and made the positions better. Moved things in the right direction. Instead of declaring jihad on everyone, she met with members of her team and worked shit out.

And this will work for her when she brings for legislation. She building a coalition.

Bravo.

You know how she and Bernie did that? Popular support. Biden was worried about their base not showing up. And, on her end, a lot of that has to do with the Twitter clapbacks you so detest. It's not about Twitter-- the platform doesn't matter, it's messaging. She engages people and we give her power. "Not me, us."

I give you credit for not just acknowledging but highlighting progress. But it's important that this is no shift and this accomplishment was built through the threat of "jihad." If Biden didn't think Bernie folks might not get in line, none of this happens.

Just remember that goes both ways. We can declare jihad too.

Also, we have more people than Bernie or AOC, so remember when we demand changes as well.

But let's agree to declare jihad on Trump for now.

CBC lawmakers rip Justice Democrats for targeting black lawmakers for primaries
BY SCOTT WONG, The Hill - 07/12/19

Congressional Black Caucus members are furious at Justice Democrats, accusing the outside progressive group aligned with firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) of trying to oust lawmakers of color, specifically African American lawmakers.

Justice Democrats is backing primary challengers to eight-term Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), a Hispanic Caucus member, and 10-term Rep. Wm. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). The insurgent group also made noise this year about challenging Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), a CBC member seen as the heir apparent to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Justice Democrats exists to challenge Democrats in safe seats who are not representative of what people who live in such places want. They get in place and because no Republican can beat them, they can go unchallenged for decades. Those seats are going to be disproportionately held by minority members of congress because minorities are largely unlikely to be elected anywhere else. So while Justice Democrats exists to target safe establishment Dems, within that the threat is most acutely felt by the black establishment Democrats.

So they're crying and insinuating conspiracy theories, like targeting bad lawmakers of color and replacing them with good ones is equivalent to taking out the leadership of the Black Panthers. But it's the exact opposite-- William Lacy Clay and his father have represented Ferguson for over 50 years. It should be the people's seat but they think it's their's. If the people who they represent think they're doing a good job, they'll re-elect them-- They should have a choice. And they don't without primaries. It's sickeningly weak to invoke race here when his challenger is a black female activist and the organization they're attacking has only made the hue of Congress darker.

We fuckin' got him.

Wow! Great news on Corey Bush :bravo:

New York Times headline:
Cori Bush Defeats William Lacy Clay in a Show of Progressive Might

Cori Bush, a onetime homeless woman who led protests following a white police officer’s fatal shooting of a Black 18-year-old in Ferguson, ousted longtime Rep. William Lacy Clay Tuesday in Missouri’s Democratic primary, ending a political dynasty that has spanned more than a half-century.

Glad Cori Bush won, she seems like an amazing sister. But I’m skeptical of the “progressive” movement. Many of them seem like undercover white supremacists to me

She's a single mom with $20,000. Beat Established Democrat candidates with millions to win Senate nomination in TN.

Marquita Bradshaw beats establishment-backed Mackler in Tennessee Democratic Senate primary

Activist Marquita Bradshaw scored a surprise victory in the Democratic Senate primary in Tennessee on Thursday, dispensing with Senate Democratic leaders’ preferred candidate James Mackler in a five-way nominating contest.

With 58 percent of precincts reporting, Bradshaw was declared the winner with 35.5 percent of the vote.

Heading into the primary, Bradshaw faced what appeared to be insurmountable odds. Mackler, an Army veteran and attorney, held the endorsement of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and a massive cash advantage over all of his opponents.

Bradshaw, by comparison, raised only $8,420 in the first quarter of the year and doesn’t appear to have even filed a second-quarter fundraising report with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

But as primary results came in on Thursday, her advantage in the race became clear. Bradshaw, who is Black, dominated in Western Tennessee, including in Shelby County where Memphis is located.

Still, Bradshaw is expected to face an uphill battle in the general election.

I posted her in the 2020 Black candidates thread. She wasn't a Justice Democrat. She was endorsed by DSA though, so she is probably a lot like them. Very cool story.

Im torn on this. on the one hand...these ineffective mofos need to go anyway bc they aint doing ish to help most of the people they represent....on the other hand, every time a seat is lost and gets someone new...that person is the lowest in seniority for the good committees and power structure.....so they need to be there for a while in order to get seniority.....cynthia mckinney from GA was a beast with it and stayed with her foot in congressional ass so much so they made a concerted effort to get her out of there.....
