Conversation between Marshawn, Maher, and Frank is a shining example of the disconnect

When do you see white athletes that aren't involved with politics, interviewed on political shows? You don't see JJ Watt,Aaron Rodgers,Phillip Rivers etc etc on political shows or asked non sports questions. This is a political show and the lone black person on it is an nfl player least likely to be involved with politics. In no way should be considered a representative of black folks on politics. Marshawn is more a character/entertainer/clown than a political source. Maher and his people knew that before they invited him to the show. If they wanted more insightful answers to political questions, Richard Sherman,Eric Reid, Malcolm Jenkins or a few dozen others would have been more likely to provide them than Marshawn Lynch. This was like Tavis Smiley hosting a show with black political specialists and inviting Johnny Football to be the lone white face to talk political shit. White folks wouldn't internalize him and his answers as a representation of themselves collectively. We shouldn't either. There are both white and black folks totally ignorant to politics.

Lol "I'm in the communities and shit"

Bruh you don't live there. Cut the shit

I know you are a troll but Marshawn is still very connected to Oakland. As far as the streets go, Marshawn is the most loved of any celebrity in Oakland right now. That goes for rappers too.

Who gives a shit if he's the most loved? You guys are so.weird.

All it takes to be loved is to be the guy who made it, spread a little money around here and there (he said he comes and gives out turkeys-- symbolic temporary gestures) and be seen as a "real nigga" cuz you can still talk the slang and shit.

I don't actually expect him to live there, and I can see that he probably WANTS to do something cool for everybody, but like all of us, he doesn't really know how. I'm.notbtrioping on that.

I just wonder why he took a gig to be on a show about politics when he doesn't even care about politics.

re: Marshawn - I think that its good that he went on the show. He represents a legitimate segment of the population and too often, shows like Bill Maher and other liberal media outlets spend a lot of time finger-pointing at the non-voting public without actually trying to have a conversation with them. This was my point of starting this thread. We actually saw some real discourse going on and watched the dysfunction of communication failures unfold that create these circles of blame.
Non voter: "I don't vote because I don't see results." "Its all just talk"
Pundit: "You don't vote, therefore you don't get results" "Why won't you just vote and see if it makes a difference?"
Politician: "I want to make a difference but I can't if I don't have the support of the voters"

This is the circle that is seen over and over and it was shown on this show.
I'm not taking a side. I think they are all right. I don't blame Marshawn for taking it to he streets himself to try to make a visible difference, even if temporary. I don't blame Bill for pointing out the importance of a unified front to get a goal accomplished via voting and I don't blame Barney Frank for trying to make a difference from within the system itself.
The question is, how does everyone get on code with each other?

It is like an exercise bike...a never ending cycle. The politician comes through when he needs the vote, eats at the ribs joint, shakes hands, then when he gets elected...disappears never to return. I can see where the population so used to lip service is coming from...but as a voter you gotta be able to see through all that.

I agree with your main point, I'd stop short of calling Marshawn a "clown" though.
